Stang vs SS/WS6

So far Ive read lots of posts trumpeting on about the superiority of the camaro and trans am.... It sickens me to think mustang guys have yielded so willingly to such a weak opponent. Ive never lost a race to any street trans am or SS. Honestly most of the people that drive them seem to be wanna be street races who grind up t-56s and sport automatics. Or at least that's how it seems to be in this part of the universe. 1st rule of racing street or strip. there's always someone faster than you. Sure the LS1 is nice, but my dad's 454 Big Block with a 4.88 gear makes any LS1 seem like a joke. I dunno. Build your stang or get out the way for the real deal.

btw, I drive a 92 GT with a turbo charged 302. Pushing plenty over 400hp. with a 3.73 Gear. If I lose to a LS1 I wont be shocked but I havent backed away from a camaro or trans am and I wont start now. Even pushing the limits against cars like the STi and Evo. Just a rant.... a confused saddened mustang fan... The hooves beat faster than the Heart.

I dunno... Think the LS1 is bad. Think about the 600rwhp Fast Back in Gone in 60 seconds. 428 Cobra... that's bad...

What's the top speed with 4.88 gears???

There's always a bigger fish, regardless of the badge on the front or back. I would hope with a FI setup that you would have an edge over most other street machines. FI is few and far between in my experience. I can think of two FI cars that I've ever had contact with, one is my buddy's Powerdyne supercharged 98 TA, and a turbo CRX that I raced about a year and a half ago. Just depends on where you live.

Run what you brung, and have a good time doing it. If anyone is gonna cry after they lost, they shouldn't have been doing it in the first place...

A LS1 is a real good engine. Very efficient. There are pleanty of fast fox mustangs out there and there are plenty of fast f-bodies as well it all depends on your expenence and how big your wallet is. One thing about your dads 454 is though it would not pass emissions or get the same fuel economy as an LS1 and still make that kind of power. I agree with blkcamaroSS... Run what you brung and have fun with it.

Of course Im glad that statement was made, run what you brung and have fun with it. Too many guys gripin about how they dont have or wish they had was really the spawning grounds of my rant. I especailly hate the I wish I had a skyline guys... Or I wish they sold them here. You should wish you had the 95k to pay for one. For 95k Id build a 67 Fast Back, a 69 Trans Am, a 69 SS and still have money left over to build a mad AAR Cuda. Im not sure on the specifics on the ET of the firebird, it's long since been retired and the only thing I know about it is the Dyno sheet says 515rwhp. Im not ready to drive a classic car like that so I dont touch it. Besides to touch the families' holy grail after I recked one of his motorcycles would be blasfamy.

Oh and a quick one. It's not what you drive either it's how you drive it. The worlds record on a stock 5.0 is 12.47 according to hot rod's article on stock classes. I know I never got 12.47 when my car was stock but Damn that man can Drive!

Okay SpoolGT, I just gotta know, what completely stock car did a !/4 in the 12's?? what kinda car was it and was it really completely stock?? I mean yeah its the way you drive that makes a huge difference but a 12sec stock car is mindblowing if its true. could you put up a link or just some info on what the car was. Cheers.

That's a stock class, which I believe is allowed very limited modifications. I suppose it's possible for a stock motored, stripped down notch with the proper suspension set up and driver to break into the 12's.

Several years ago MM&FF ran an artical about one of these cars. The motor was basically stock but the suspension and trans were bad ass. The chassis was so stiff and it left the line so hard it almost brought the front tires off the ground, all with a stock engine. I'm guessing this is the same class.

Checked my archives.November 2003 MM&FF. Something about a car guy never throwing away mags. I have Hot Rods from the past 10 years too. Any way you look at it, that's freakin amazing. BTW that was a 5.0 GT with full body kit and full interior. You can see the stock seats in the pic.
