My 2001 Maxima GXE has developed an idle around 1500 to 2000 rpm. This doesn't happen all of the time. Just noticed it about 2 weeks ago. It tries to pull itself along when you are trying to brake to a stop. The problem occurs after the car is warm and should be idleing around 600 or 700. Just wondering if anyone else may be having this same problem or if someone has an idea about a solution.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I am having the same type of problem on a 2000 Maxima. It has only happened a couple times when it was warm out - over 90 F, but happened today and it is only about 70 F. The dealer said it probably is an idle control motor (a linear motor) and it would be about $420 to replace. The first time it happened was last year going through Chicago on a hot day. I was stuck in traffic for a couple hours and the engine was starting to overheat - had to turn off the AC. The dealer said it was a plugged radiator that time and removed and cleaned it - for about $300. I was not convinced that was it, but they were insistant, but they didn't do a flow test or any other test to document a plugged radiator.
Did you get yours fixed, and if so, what was the problem?

I have not done anything to fix this problem....it seems to be less frequent in the last 6 months....it has never overheated or anything. It just likes to idle up at around 1600 - 200 rpm. I can hit the gas and it wil come back down to normal most of the time....but once you accelerate and then come to a stop again it does it again.
