1973 Dodge Colt

Anyone here have a 1973 or similar dodge colt? These cars must be pretty rare. I have never seen one on the road.
I've seen one that had been sitting in a field for about 15 years.

I have a 1976 Colt Coupe that actually runs fairly well. I bought it from a girlfriend that bought it new in college. The trouble is all the smog was yanked when she lived in Ohio (I'm in California), so I can't register it.

I was thinking of doing an engine swap (anyone ever done one of those?), but then I recently found that I only have to hold out til January and the 30 year old exemption takes effect (current calendar year minus 29 equals exempt model year...so: 2005 minus 29 equals 1976)...

The car is in in fabulous shape, with the little white letter low profile tires and--believe it or not--the old style Western Rims....can't wait to tool around in it!

are the 76 and 73 the same car?

The statement about the car being in a field is not true, I just said it to make a long story short, the real story is.

My dad was given a red 4 door 73 dodge colt sometime in 1980. It had something wrong with it, I do not recall what it was. Needlesds to say, he never got around to fixing it.

it ended up sitting out of the way in the driveway until 1993 or so. One of the neighbors thought it was an eyesore and complained to the township. So it ended up being sent to a junkyard.

personally I think it gave the driveway a little charactor and made a statement to passing cars about the neighborhood :biggrin:

Those are rare cars around here, I have never seen one except for that one and ones in pictures online.

Yeah, I did, right here in So Cali. It was such a frikkin hassle dealing with the DMV every two years at smog check time, so much that I'll never do it again as long as I'm in a state as dicked up as this one is about stuff like that. I had a '73 Dodge 3/4 ton service van with a 318. I'm an old 340 guy from the good old MOPAR muscle car days, so I built one, (blueprinted) and did some trick stuff to it, dropped it in the van and THEN went to the DMV where I was inundated with redtape up the wazoo like you wouldn't believe. 318 to 340 isn't rocket science, nor is it a terribly drastic form of engine swap. The stupid part about it is, DMV would eventually attain satisfaction that my van wasn't going to bring down the economy with its evil swapped engine, and they'd sign me off for another 2 years. When 2 years had passed, they would always manage to have forgotton all the previous clearances, and the BS would crank up again.

who thought he really robbed me for 300 dollars for the car. its in pretty
good shape.it was bought new to be a rally car. i plan to pull out the
little 1.5 engine. and install a motor out of a dodge conquest.i hope with
a little work to have real quick little sleeper car.

I am actually wondering the exact same thing. I have a 1975 colt 2 door with a 1.4 that I would like to put something a little better in, but not too much work (maybe like a charger 2.6?) havent figured out which motor would be the best for the job tho.

My Dad bought a 77 colt brand new. It was his frist New car. He has it in his garage, it broke down about 2 years ago (I suspect the time chain riped), but up untill then it was his daily driver! I always wanted to drive it, but it broke down 2 years before I got my licence.

We are thinking of swaping the engine, but those engines are rare now! My dad told me that back in the 80's they were every where in the scrap yards and whatnot.

Any ways... what was the point of my story? oh yeah anyone know were we could find a Dodge Colt engine? (Its a 2.0)

hey some good news the jeep liberty motor and tranny should be a direct drop in it has a 2.4 engine
with a 6 speed tranny also not all jeep libertys are
four wheel drive some are two wheel drive.
also jeep has bigger 3.2 litre motor using the same
transmission this is the same engine inthe chrysler

almost forgot i think this 2.4 is the same type engine
