MotorWorks Plastic Kits

I was walking through walmart today and saw they were carrying a new brand of plastic models by MotorWorks. It was of a Turbo Mustang. I was curious if anyone has tried these models yet. they were really cheap, but in terms of plastic models, doesnt cheap mean poorly made peices and lack of detail?

It's a spinoff of Revell. It's a Walmart exclusive packaging, similar to the checkerboard packaged kits from AMT. The Mustang kit is actually a Capri. No chrome parts but the only kit available of that car. The Z-28 has been reissued several times.

now if only my local wal-mart carried kits ... just finished having a discussion with the store manager about it ... and he showed me the new plan-o-grams that was issued to the store .. no model section at all ..

Our local Walmarts are doing inventory. It looks like the shelve space may be shrinking.......again.

ours is doing inventory and reshaping the departments ... goin to have the same amount of floor space for the toy section but looks like they are going to dedicate a section to more of the junk that no one wants ... they have killed off the model section .. and almost completly killed off the die cast car section.

so, since its a spinoff of revell, should I expect the same type of semi quality that we get from revell?

Yeah and no. Expect old Revell quality. I believe the Mustang (Capri) may actually be an old Monogram kit. Both of these kits are '70's issues, so the have a standard tub interior. The Mustang (Capri) even has the old two part soft plastic tires that you have to glue together.

They aren't bad kits, but by no means up to todays tooling standards. I already profiled it with a set of the XS tuner wheels and it looks real nice on the Capri. It's got a regular suspension (No metal axle), so it will take a bit more work to lower it. Heck, it would probably be fun to take a V8 out of a new Mustang. I have a whole bunch of those pro shop 32 Ford Phantom Vickies, which come with a Mustang block. I may have to do that.

MorotWorks Turbo Mustang? Anyone got a pic of what the box may look like?

^^Yeah, I have yet to see them but would love to have another Capri kit!

Hey Guys, I broke this news over at Scale auto website about a week and a half ago. I bought the 69 Camaro, which if I'm not mistaken looks like the old Revell Rampage Camaro. The Mustang(Capri) was neat, but I figured the Camaro would be more apt to customizing.
Our wal-Mart's model kit section actually expanded. They got 16 of these Motorworks by Revell kits in and in a week their was only 1 Camaro left. So they are selling simply because they are new old tools is my guess. Here are a couple photo's I took of the Camaro I bought:

Not too keen on the molded in color. Lotta primer for yellow. Basic kit, but should be fun for beginners.

No, that's not Revell's excellent 1:25th scale 1969 Camaro kit. That's a poorly done aberration from Monogram's post-Tom Daniels period. The body is way out of proportion and there is little to no detail. The kit has no stock option, and instead concentrates on wild engine pieces and absurd streetmachine body parts.

On the other hand, those kits are easy to build and can be fun to mess around with, plus they're usually great sources for street machine wheels and tires.
