Larry Ellison

Just felt like starting a new thread. Does anyone know which McLaren F1 Larry Ellison owns? From what I've looked up, it's silver. But that isn't much help. ;)
P.S. Finally got Driving Ambition, and now I am a happy man. I would be immeasurably happier if I got a McLaren F1 to go with it. :D

Which means that Musk's car cannot be #067 and must be something different, or Ellison sold his car to Musk which I doubt. Chris, what were the chassis numbers on the two Petrik cars? Do you know? I recall an old post from gerd where he listed them, maybe I should search for that...
This is getting frustrating. :banghead:

042 - Petric (Now Musk's based on elimination and color)
045 - Petric (Newport Autosport Car)

Well #042 can't be accurate for one of Petrik's because we verified with certainty that chassis number belongs to Carl Beal's F1. He bought his car direct from McLaren in 1997, not from Petrik. Something is screwy with your list there. :screwy: I'm not blaming you of course, but it appears your source might have gotten a few things wrong.
I'm going to search for old threads from gerd - I think he spelled it all out a while ago. Maybe he was wrong though too.

YES THE CAR WAS BUILT IN 1995 AND SET ON SHOWROOM FLOOR AT MCLAREN, YES 80TO 90 THOUSAND. YES CARTY BEAL IS THE FIRST OWNER.AND YES CHASSIS #042. That coming from Randy Wells, and I think he would be reliable considering beal even said "he has the car".

I see. Well, we'll have a complete list one day, one day..................... or not. :D
Here's somthing interesting, and it happened at work, right after my last post. A library patron came with a box of books to donate (yes, I work at a library). So, I took the box to it's proper location to unload. As I opened the box, LO AND BEHOLD, there was a big book, with a picture of none other than a silver McLaren F1 roadcar. I was like "HOLY SHITE !!!!", (ofcourse I didn't say it out loud, and it wouldn't have mattered since I was in a vacant storage room). Anyways, as it turned out, the McLaren was on the back cover of the book, which is called "Classic Automobiles" by Michael Bowler, for those who care. Long story short, I now own the book, thanks to the fact that I was allowed to keep the book, since we have gotten so many donations (i'll pay $1.50, since that is the cost for hard cover books in our upcoming book sale). It would have been a more awesome coincidence if a McLaren pulled up as I left the library. :D

Wow - that's a cool coincidence - like fate almost. :D
Do you have a way of posting a shot of the cover? I think I may have that book as 'Michael Bowler' sounds familiar, but I don't recall any books besides "Driving Ambition" and the Autocar F1 Road Car book with a silver F1 on the front and back. If not, I guess I'll have to look when I get home.

Chris got it, that's the one. And yeah fate, that's what I thought when I opened the box. I only hope fate plays a part in owning, or driving, or even seeing the car.
PS I should've been clearer; I meant that the picture I saw was on the back of the book. Also, the cover you see above is actually a leaf cover ie like the leaf cover on Driving Ambition. The hardcover under is red.

Well, standard info i guess, but seems like the author did his research. If you want, i'll try and scan the pages, and the photos, as soon as i go to my brother's house. I am rather busy with work and school, so I haven't gotten around to scanning the images, although i'm off tomorrow and will scan them then.
I did manage to scan a pic of an F1 in an "exotic cars" calendar i got a while ago. The photos of all the cars are apparently by Ron Kimball, as it says so. You may know him from a couple of photos of McLarens he has on his website.
Here is a link to my Image Station album so you can see the scanned pic. In case you don't have an account, it's free (though i think Chris and you, Peloton, do):

Alright, I finally managed to scan and put together the McLaren pics from the book "Classic Automobiles". I didn't scan two of the pictures in the book, as they aren't quite complete pictures, or interesting. One is a view of the front quarter of the car, the other is of the back engine bay (with the cover unopen). I also became tired of struggling to align and hold down such a big book on the scanner. :D

SEPTEMBER 18, 2000, MONDAY, FINAL EDITION
SECTION: NEWS; Pg. A13; MATIER & ROSS
LENGTH: 1060 words
HEADLINE: Flare-Up Over Smog Check on Ellison's Car
BYLINE: Phillip Matier, Andrew Ross
DATELINE: BAY AREA
BODY:
What is it about billionaire Larry Ellison and his toys?
First there's an uproar over his late-night private jet landings in San Jose, then a yacht salesman drags him to court for allegedly stiffing him on a $700,000 commission. Now comes word of a smog-check flap involving Ellison's prized $1 million McLaren F1 auto.
What we're talking about here is a little silver-gray one-seater with a 627-horsepower engine that is so rare and so expensive that only a half dozen are in the United States.
As sources tell us, Ellison's smog troubles started when investigators from the state Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Automotive Repairs busted a Burlingame mechanic for issuing certificates by mail -- without so much as looking under a car's hood.
As luck would have it, among the many vehicles listed in the mechanic's files was the aforementioned McLaren . . . registered to Oracle Corp. and its chairman, Larry Ellison.
And lo and behold, sources say, investigators found evidence that Ellison's million-dollar ride -- with license plate "ORACLE 8" -- had been issued a phony smog certificate.
Investigators decided they wanted to do their own inspection, but our source says the folks entrusted with taking care of the super sports car tossed up a series of roadblocks that kept the probers at bay for weeks.
Finally, after behind-the-scenes negotiations -- including the intervention of Ellison's attorney -- state investigators were allowed to inspect the car inside a warehouse earlier this month at a closely guarded location in San Carlos.
But our source tells us there were a number of conditions imposed on the inspectors -- including an agreement that they wouldn't photograph the car, wouldn't disclose its location or -- get this -- even start the engine.
Now, in fairness, in order for the British-built car to have entered the country in the first place, it would have to have been put through testing in a certified emissions laboratory overseen by the Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency.
And indeed, when the local investigators finally got a look at the car, it did visually pass muster.
Still, even though no one is saying that billionaire Ellison himself did anything wrong, sources say the consumer department is still trying to deal with the very touchy subject of how -- and to whom -- that illegal smog certificate was issued in the first place.
By the way, we made repeated calls to Ellison's office asking for comment, but the calls went unreturned.
