i have a 99 gm factory cd player in my prix and for some reason when i go to lower the volume, it has problems lowering. if i turn it like i would normally lower it, it hardly lowers at all. i would have to turn the volume knob real slow in order for the thing to lower like it should. sometimes the volume would even get a little louder when i try and lower it. what could be the problem? and how can i fix this? thanx a bunch.

i think that may be common for them. mine did the same thing on my 98. eventually the cd player burned out and had to replace the whole damn thing.

My 99 had the same problem with the volume knob as well. It would turn the volume up when I wanted to turn it down. I was trying to sell the car a few months ago, and because I forgot to tell people about it, when they came from test driving it they'd be all pissed because they almost blew their eardrums out. I had to try hard to keep from laughing at them.

The only quick fix that I know of is to simply use the steering wheel controls.

Since then I had the dealer check it out and they replaced it the entire unit for me (thank you extended warrenty). I haven't had any problems with the new one yet, and the CD player doesn't skip nearly as much.

Well, you can take the radio out and send it to be replaced by a GM certified center. But definetly is the radio that is about to go north.

You know you might pay more for repairs then if you just went to some place like Circuit city and spend $70 on a aftermarket radio.......better sound all the way around.

The only problem with Aftermarket radios is if you have steering wheel column controls. But I think Ripn12s posted a site where you can get a universal steering column control converter or something like that

My radio has been doing this since i go the car back in july. If you lightly pull out on the volume knob when changing the volume it works like a charm.

That's interesting....I wish I would have known that before I got mine replaced. Now I'm curious to know if that would have worked on mine as well.
