1996 Civic DX

We have a 1996 Civic DX, it just stopped working. The starter cranks the engine, you can see the cams moving while cranking, when I tested for spark at plug #1 there was no spark. I took off the dist cap, no spark from coil while cranking. There are 2 wires feeding the coil, each shows 12 volts when connected between wire and ground. Is it the coil is there a way to test it, or is another art in the distributor?
