LOL! nOOb got banned.

anyways, am no race expert and i havent had any experience racing. but experiment on stop lights when I AM ALONE. try launching it at like 2000-3000 rpm. feather off the clutch so you avoid spinning the wheels (especially a FWD). i dunno...maybe there is some other better way to do it. you wana try to get to peak torque right away with out spinning your wheels. thats how i see it.

Practice makes perfect. If you have a buddy that lives in the middle of nowhere, practicing there would be good.

so thats how you do it? well whats the wrong way to launch

The wrong way to launch:

1. Push clutch.
2. Floor gas, revving engine to redline.
3. Let off clutch.
4. Enjoy the smoke.

ok what it you push in clutch rev till about 3000 and pop clutch?

Yeah, try that. I tend to launch around 3500, and that gets me decent results. Experiment a bit with different RPMs until you find one that really works.

every car will vary.. 3k sounds a bit high your going to spin at that kind of RPM. When you launch you want to get the jump with very little or no kind of spin at all. If you launch at 3k dont just drop the clutch kind of ease of it.. course your going to eat your clutch up a bit

If I launch hard out at 2k I'll spin my tires to 70-80 then finally catch traction.

as said before practice makes perfect, I have yet to perfect my launches with my new motor.

but isnt it bad on your tranny cause my frined has an STi and he was launchin dont know what RPMs but he needs a new tranny

i tried at 3000 rpm and i think it works just fine...i dont let go of the clutch right away but i feather of the clutch or ease of it...i just get a little chirp on the tires. then i know i have the traction...i floor it then shift till about red line to second to third. i usually just try to parctice on empty streets with a stop light. never really raced...i would rather take it to the track to race somebody...not worth it getting caught by cops.

the shift point depends on the car and the tires and the track/street conditions.
you want to get as much RPM's as possible without burning out, but not low enough RPM's so that the car bogs. The best launch is where you lose traction for just a second, then take off.
If you don't at least chirp the tires, launch harder.

not if you don't have much power!

Spin to 80mph? What are you driving? Is that in the snow? haha, that just sounds kinda odd. It's hard to go faster when your wheels are spinning. Especially from a standstill.

I think he was referring to the wheels spinning up to 70-80mph. In other words, his speedo read 80mph, but his car was moving 20-25mph, before they finally started biting in and got traction...

It can be.

If you're running a lot of power you can eat up a gear if you're not careful, but on the launch it is your clutch that takes the worst beating. At least until the cltuch grabs. :)

Generally you want to find a good RPM to let out the clutch. A good point would be a little bit before you start to loose traction. Like sideshowrich said, practice makes perfect.

Nope :grinno: weights all in the back so while I'm spinning I'm actually moving too.. my cars kickin out about 285-300 at the wheels. Should be close to 340 once the intercooler and smaller pulley are put on.

Last time I raced someone I spun and shifted into 2nd.. and found myself still spinning I was like no way! then hit 3rd and right before 4th came I stopped. I launched a wee bit hard that time 2500 :( so much torque off the line.

He has a light-ass Fiero SE-V6 with a modded 3800II supercharged motor from the GTP.

DAM that yellow eclipse is SOOOOO ugly.

Looks like a ricer exploded on it. LOL.

But nice door conversion, to bad about the rest of the car tho. And its prob a FWD NA too.

kinda depends on each car, but i kinda have a feel for it, with practice of course. i would(with my talon i had) jump to say almost 3 grand more like 2700 and let loose, IF i felt tire spin(wich would last less then a second) i would let of a tad bit so the tire's would grip and then punch it.
its a qiuck process to were if you seen it you would probly think i jumped perfectly, but thats all cause i practiced A LOT.
havent yet figured out how to really jump a rwd cause my pops vette is a automatic. my same concept doesn't work very well with the vette :dunno:

If 3000 is what you lauch at, what should you normally start at cause I usually do 3000 just when im driving. Of course I let off clutch slow so I dont fly, when you lauch do you let off clutch much quicker?

I had a perfect launch one time in my 1989 Toyota Turcel.. The engine has only 75 HP but it is also overly light which makes up for the weak HP a tad..

Anyways the story goes I was out with my friend cruising around and we pulled up to a light sitting next to a Camaro with two marines acting like morons, and blasting their blown speakers as loud as they could with zero bass.. Well they kept giving us dirty looks and shit, then started reving up their engine, so I took the challenge even though I knew I would lose or so I thought..

The light turned green and they burned their tires, I however did a text book launch with no tire spin, that little 75 HP motor put me in my seat cause she flew through first gear.. By the time they caught traction and caught up I was heading through 3rd gear and already at the speed limit.. Once I hit 50mph I let off feeling I proved my point, then they came flying by still getting on it.. I caught up to them at another light down the road and they wanted to do it again betting me that they could take me off of the line this time, I ignored it cause I didn't want to ruin what little victory I already had .. So instead I just turned up my bass hellishly loud to where I couldnt hear them and pulled away casually..

Thats proof that its not the car thats important, its the driver, and in my case a little luck :p
