Hey people
I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima. Its has hard time starting up in hot or cold weather. It have New Battery, New Starter, New Camshaft Position sensor, New Crankshaft Position Sensor, New knock sensor, New collant temp sensor, New spak plugs, New Air Filter, and New PCV vavle, Cleaned the Throttle body out including the intake. Its a 1995 Nissan Maxima GXE 5 Speed manual. When you compression Start it it starts up fine. After starting the car runs fine. Idles fine. The starter runs perfect. It cranks over, but starts up eventually. Check engine lights on comes up as Code P1335. Is it my ECU? If anyone has an idea or had the same problem please Im me at Turk66460 AOL or Email me @ [email protected] or leave a feedback. Thanks alot for your time looking.

One more thiing after trying to crank, and don't start, you hear a noise from all the fuel injectors, click click etc. Anyways its sound like the ECU thinks the car is on. Well i am not sure what is it. Thanks.

I had a recent problem with long cranks in my 98 Max. For me it was corrosion on the ground for the car intself. This is unfortuantely located in the transmission. So it will need to be pulled and cleaned off and put back in if this is your problem. If you live in a place where it snows and the weather is shitty, most likely this is your problem. Costs about $500-$600 to get it fixed. I just had it done and mine starts like a charm! Otherwise I would say it is ECU related, but investigate this first and don't let anyone tell you your are crazy when you tell them this. It is true! Stupid Nissan put the ground IN the tranny (Duh!) where it mates with the motor and it has a tendancy to corrode in poor weather areas of the country, so they never did a full recall on it and not all dealers are familiar with this problem. But from the symptoms you described it sounds like you have this problem, especially since you replaced everything else I was told to replace. I wish you the best!
P.S. The code you are getting is probably something related to fuel continuously being pumped into the motor over the course of the long cranks. Typically plugs foul, or something related to that.

Is used. Tested and works makean offer. Thanks again. I will check it tomorow and clean it to see if it works. I will post if it doesn't.

Wait do you mean In the transmission it self. WOW if that is it. Well the ground for the battery is located on my trans and motor. I will clean that.

I do mean in the tranny itself. Your battery and groundstrap are not the only grounds, the ground for the car itself is located in the trans. Typically Nissan will recommend starting with cleaning the connection where the ground strap bolts too and replacing the ground strap itself. If that does not solve the problem most likely you will have to pull the trans and have the ground cleaned.

I know this is a rather old thread but I thought I would add my 2 cents worth as I just finished solving a similar problem. My 1995 Maxima would sometimes crank and sometimes not. When it would crank it sounded like the starter was straining for power sometimes and others it would fire right up. Rather perplexing for a while. I decided to start with the battery to make sure I had good power to everything. The battery was a few years old and was probably going to need to be replaced anyways. Things got better, it would start more often and crank better but still occasionally would not crank at all. I removed the starter and bench checked it. It would occasionally fail to run, even with the cables hooked directly to the starter as opposed to the solenoid. So off to the store for a new starter. New starter in and with renewed confidence I tested the car for several starts. The problem got better yet, but not gone. The car will reliably turn over now but sometimes cranked excessively before starting. After remembering this thread I pulled the ground connection off of the motor and discovered a pretty corroded connection. It took about 30 minutes to clean this connection as it is in a horrible place, it cost me a few cuts too. (no job seems to be done before I am bleeding :-} )
The result is that the car now starts quickly and I have learned an important lesson. When doing your routine maintenance remove the ground connection at the far end and inspect it. I believe that the low voltage because of the poor connection caused the starter to be damaged. It was also likely causing the excessive cranking necessary as a result of poor communications from various senders on the engine that utilize a good ground for their function. Had I cleaned this up before the starter went bad the only thing I would have likely needed is a new battery at some point, maybe not even that if it wasn't grounded it might not have been getting a good charge from the alternator.
Live and learn I guess... hopefully this helps someone out there!
