Burned up clutch

I have just recently...well in the past few months...burned up my clutch :banghead: . My 1995 GSX is completely stock except for the appearence and a short shifter, but the biggest problem is do I have to get a whole new clutch assembly. I planned on doing this myself and was looking for a good one that would be for street, but not so much racing. The car has almost 100k on it(it was a daily driver) and now it will not move at all in any gear. I drove it one day and it just had to be towed because it went a few miles and I wanted to get it home but the thing just burned up on me so I had to get it towed. Just looking to find out what I should do. Thanks.

Most poeple go with a ACT 2600 for racing. If racing isnt a big thing for you, the 2100 is a popular choice. I wouldnt recomend stock unless you really baby the car, but that will be the cheapest route. You can pick up the 2100 for 300ish, and if you dont do your own work, labor is ~500 at most shops, while a fellow DSMer like myself would charge 300 or so, if you are in a lcoal dSM club.

i'm not 100% certain, but don't you need to machine your flywheel when you replace the clutch?

Im not exactly sure what a lot of things are on the Eclipse unfortunetly. Its under my Dads name and I dont get to do much with it. Im only really familiar with VW's. I need to find someplace that could help me install a good one. The book I have says I can do it myself. I dont think there is any reason to machine it...but Im not too bright :screwy:

You do have to machine the flywheel, always. The "step height" has to be jsut right, make sure whoever cuts it knows this. For ACT clutches go with a step height of .610 inches. For stock I believe it is .620, but be sure to look that up if you se a stock clutch. Very important.

if you want something that you can drive every day, but still want it to grab a littel. we got my friend a clutch at auto zone it was 145 and it has a life time warranty we have repacled his 3 times and the third time we put the one from auto zone in and it has not blown. he races it alot to and drives it every day. that way if it gose out agian you can get a new one for free. or you can go buy a racing clutch from some one and get 5,000 miles of it and have to buy a new one it up to you though if you drive it every day buy a clutch that will last if you want to race it buy a raceing clutch hope i could help have a good day

If you live in MD, both www.extrememotorsports.com (MD, but often overpriced) and www.slowboyracing.com (PA) are near to you. Other good but not local sites for ACT clutches are www.roadraceengineering.com, and the other typical DSM sites. Let me see if I have a list saved somewhere...
