I have an '87 Iroc, 350 TPI. I have shorty headers and also and extra pair of headman long tube headers. I've gone to tuffy twice(i just wanted to drive it, so i settled with tuffy) but the first time they told me they couldn't put exhaust on long tubes and that i had to get shorty's. So whatever, i bought shorty's brought it back and they said they still couldn't do it. So i said F*&^ Tuffy!!(No offense if anyone works there, the one by me is horrible!) Now i need some advice on a good exhaust system. I want the car to sound real mean!! Like it should!! But i also don't want to spend a fortune! Should i go with dual exhaust VS. just dual tipped? Shorty's VS. Long tube? And what brand? And anything else you can think of.

well, dont know if money is an option, but the meanest cat back i have EVER heard bar none, is the chambered exhaust from GMMG. its a cat back that uses two original replacement 1969 camaro off road chambered tube resonators for mufflers. just sounded mean. not the loudest, but definately one of the coolest but its about 700 bucks. personally im going with edelbrock TES headers, a catco catalytic converter, and a flowmaster american thunder exhaust system. all 3in. with twin 3in x 24in polished exhaust tips. got the exhaust and cat, but headers are in the mail from jegs as we speak. so ill post on here when i put em on and let yall know if its sweet or not. but yeah, i would go with edelbrock headers, excelent flow and construction, and a bolt on instalation. including emmisions equipment.

that does sound pretty sick.... however i'd just liek to through out the posibilty that you can always do a custom set-up from the cat back. pipes are fairly cheap and then you just have to get them bent the way you want. then you get to pick what mufflers you want so you could go with any style you want and then set it how you want to come out the back. but it's your choice i just wanted to through that out there.

well ok, i have heard of true duals on the third gens, but unless you have a jacked up rear axle, theres not alot of room otherwise, but im sure it could be done, if your really into going nuts, then get in contact with musclemotorsports.com, they sel used NASCAR equipment, and you might be able to find two exhaust pipe tips, the big flat ones that areused on the race cars. it would give you the option to do a custom exhaust that no one has, and would have the ground clearance that is in short supply with the third gens. i thought about that, but im more into engine design than the exhaust stuff. so i dont have the time or effort to put into that kind of exhaust system.

Well maybe i won't go for the dual, because i was thinking of lowering my car a little.

Well contrare to what Iroc believes, it can be done with out having to jack up the rear. I have lowering springs on my car and have true duals. There should be plent of room for 3" pipe over your axle. I wish I had a pic of my car to show you how I did it. It just has to be snug against the floor pan. And you have to, can't stress it enough, get some exhaust tape so you don't heat things up that don't need to be heated.

you can actually put long tube headers on your car jus a little cuttin and hammering are required, with shorty headers that wont be nessary, ive seen a set up with shorty headers where they bend out and run along the side of the car and exit in front of the real wheels, there isnt much room for a muffler there but you could look into some glasspacks or the round mufflers or modifly the floorboards, but thats not exactly an easy task, on my camaro i have long tube headers and straight pipes with glasspacks on that jus end after the doors, i had to cut into the front frame support thingy and beat it up a little bit for the collectors and stuff to clear, it sounds tight as shit

I think im gonna go with just dual tips not dual pipes. Any other suggestions on systems?

Flow master makes thin mufflers for the clearance problem, but I've never heard them so I don't know what they sound like. But there flowmasters so it can't be to bad, and should still help produce power. As far as dual tips instead of pipes, it's what ever you have time, money, and the want to do. I had a pretty beafy engine so the dual pipes wouldn't help me creat or even sustain power, but for stock systems a good cat back and headers will do you wonders. I had over 400hp out of a 305, well 345stroker and if I'da kept with the single muffler dual tips It wouldn't have been that stout. So take some time to think about what you really want, and then go for it and don't let anyone tell you that it can't be done...that's the main reason I did it, cuz the guy at the muffler shop said I couldn't and he wouldn't.
