Any of you people out there want to know how to turn off the traction control on there 97 GTP (if equiped)!? Well your probably thinking that there is no button to turn it off well there is its in the same spot as all the others but hidden behide the driver information center logo. Trust me. I took mine apart its there. Seeing my car is a lower equiped GTP it didnt come with tcc. It has a light already on saying "trac off". I guess its suppost to advance your timing or something when turned off. I dont know but if you where having trouble spinning some tires, try this its not hard to take apart. Its like taking out your radio, the face just pops off and pops back in. When i get around to it ill put some pics on here to show you all what i mean. ask if you have questions.

Traction Control will pull timing when the car detects one wheel spinning faster then the other wheel.

yeah thats when its on though right, because i was told when I bought my car from a guy in the mccgp club, that you can shut it off and it will advance the timing.

Im pretty sure that you'll see no advance in Timing with the Trac. Control off/on.
Have someone scan your car and you'll see.
Trac. Control pulls crazy timing on my car. The car will bog very bad, and the only way I can even do a good burnout (at the track) is to pull the fuse.

Ripn12s, so are you implying that even when off it will affect your car. I do not get it, why I would want to have the Traction Control System off at the track? At least on circuit will help me a lot to corners, twsit and turns... Please advice I want to lear...

At the track I want to be incontrol of the car not the car incontrol of me. Having timing pulled at the track is way worse then any tire spin you'll have. 98's seem to overide the off button if the car senses enough wheel spin. So i have to pull the fuse to totally disable the system. Also, without the fuse pulled I can't heat up my drag tires in the water box.
I dont think its going to help you out on the corners or anything such that you described. It pulls timing, the car will bog and losing timing is losing HP. So if your trying to come around a corner and the car senses the 2 tires spinning at different rates and the trac. cont. kicks in you'll lose the power that you need to pull out of the corner.

My '02 does the same thing.....even with the TCS "switched" off.

Ripn12s:
That is interesting, so the forced question is. Taking the fuse off will eventually mess up my TCS?
Because if that is the case and what you explain is accurate that will explain sometimes when the car just do not pull as usual when passing or when trying to get a decent time from 0-60mph.
So if you find someone on a street light taking TCS off will give you some pick up from light to light or the same problem will kick un anyway?
Can you share your experience?

Removing the fuse will not mess up the system.
If your car is bogging when trying to pass someone or when going WOT and the TCS light is not lit, then you probably are experiencing misfires or have a bad tank of gas.
When I roll up to someone at a light, I can hit the switch on the dash and turn off the TCS, but if I fuck the launch up and spin it(TCS) will kick in and kill my chances of winning. TCS gives you no "pick up" or any gains like that, but it will kill timing if uneven wheel spin is sensed.
Some years have no problems w/ the system kicking in when just the button pushed. As you can see though Im not the only one that has to remove the fuse to totally delete the affects of tcs

I will try the 0-60mph test with it off to see what happens. It is interesting

so basically what i was told was wrong then? I personally dont know but i was told that and i figured it would work. When i drove my brothers z-28 when he had it with the trac on and it would spin the tires a little it would raise my foot off the gas. With it off I could just rost the hell out of the tires. But thats why i figured it would work. But there is a button and a trac off light behide the driver information center. What year is your car ripn? Kilro? I think its only for 97 GTPs

98
I think 97's had a different tc system then the 98+'s. But the same principles should apply
