i gotta jetta mk2 and someone sold me a 1.3 twin turbo rotary... the engine is rather big... off hand... anyone care to take a stab at wether or not it would fit.

i know rotary kills in top end speed.... nothing can compare.... i wonder if one can get the pull away also?.

any ideas?

shot.

Rotary's are rather compact in comparison to the usual pistonified engines, so if i had to take a stab at it... yeah it would fit in... but uhhh... thats a project.... i mean geez i wouldn't even know where to start.

yea im up for the job..... i just hear shit from people and im not sure what to believe..

is a rotary got more rpm than a piston... and the fact that the rotor inside does a 1/3 of a rotation for 1 cycle got anything to do with that... .

and does it have more power.... or is it all reliant on the rpm to give it what it needs.... cause u need a gearbox that can handle it then...
remember it is a 1.3l twin turbo.

the question is not "can you", the question is "why the hell would you?!"

you are going to take a japanese engine built for a rear wheel drive coupe, and put it in a front wheel drive german sedan. thats just plain insane! you can put a VR6 in that and it will fly. helped put on in a GTI and it screams. you could even put a 1.8T in there for less trouble than you are looking at. you can get 600 hp out of a 1.8T without too much trouble.

Automotive tip: don't piss off the car gods, they don't like to be upstaged. things are the way they are for a reason.

I agree with the previous poster, don't mess with the car gods...

1) Anything can be done, it's a matter of how much money you have.

2) This project would entail a FWD to RWD conversion, in addition you would need a tranny that mates to the rotary.

3) It might have more horse power than the engine in there now, but really horse power dependant on lots of things, RPM's being one.

4) Rotary vs. piston :1 RPM in a regualr engine is equal to 1 RPM of a Rotary. However, even if you look at the traditional engine, you will see more RPM's out of a 4cyl, than a 8cly. Why? Because there is more displacement in the v8, which means the engine does not have to work as hard to produce power...

... and this is only the beginning, there are some engine basics that I think you might want to study before undertaking this project.

I converted a 4cyl, automatic Mustang to a 5.0 v8 5 speed. That was very difficult and that is a typically easy swap, since the groundwork is already there; much like the VR6 swap would be much easier...

Do what you want, but I don't think this a time or cost efficient solution... Go buy a cheap Miata and throw that rotary in there, now that would fly...

Just my $.02!

i would like to add one thing though. although 1 rpm of a piston engine = 1rpm of a rotary engine, the rpm's are not the same thing.

in a rotary engine, there is a dual stage firing pattern, not to mention that the rotary fires three times per rotar per revolution. so a 1.3 like that, it would fire the same amount of times per revolution as a 12 cylinder, and would produce at least double its displacement worth of power. a 1.3 liter rotary would produce reletively the same amount of power as a 2.6 liter and fire as many times as a 12 cylinder. its a great engine, but its decidedly out of my league for a VW swap. VR6 is a better overall swap and it wouldn't be breaking new ground. that car will get totally apart before you realize how much fabrication is involved in that swap. then you will have a torn apart car.

if you want a rotary, buy an RX-7!

Alright ALRIGHT.... i get the picture.... i just know the rotary is monster engine....hmm... maybe angering the car gods and my god in the process isnt cool... but the idea was fun...

the problem is VR6 engines are hard to come by... its easer to buy a new car with VR6 than to get the engine fitted.anyways i would need the gearbox with it.... VR6 with 1600 gearbox.... that would be funny.... 1/4 mile mad car but town driving would be a bitch.... not to mention the gearbox would be fuggered de up squared in no time..
