'79 Camaro, 305, 2 barrel, and the stock HP is only 130.

Now I have a new proformance low torque cam, 4 barrel carb, and new intake manifold all most ready to be put in. All in all that will take me up to 185-190 HP (Max 200). Now all of this is coasting me around $480.

But still thats only 190 HP, and thats nothing compared to some of the newer shit like neons, and civics. When you say 79 Camaro, the words awsome and fast come to mind. But then when I'm on the street...I mean I dont do anything because I know I'll problay get my ass beat.

With the rest of my money I have about 90 bucks and I'm gonna get headers and gonna make my own true duals. That will help but not really that much....

Sooo....what I need to know is what the hell else can I do to get this car to perform as sweet as it looks? Besides ripping the engine out and puttin some thing eles in, because budget is kinda tight. I'm gonna get a job soon because I'm almost out of the money I've saved my hole life for this car. But by the end of the yeah I hope to have enough to get a super charger.

send back or sell all the stuff you already have except the carb. Buy yourself a set of 350 vortec heads , a reasonably stout cam (less than 480 max lift, I hear thats the limit for stock vortecs) , and a vortec compatible intake like the one edelbrock makes. I have a friend who had an ole iroc . He put a mid 70's 350 in it with a set of vortecs an rpm vortec intake and a cam with 488/488 max lift (he was really pushing it) . He says he got like 400 fwhp which is nothing to laugh at. I got a set of vortecs sitting in the backroom at work . Im gonna do something similar to my 84z28's 305 altho not as extreme. 300fwhp on this thing would be rather respectable.

very spot on. the vortec heads are the best thing to happen to budget small blocks sense the 350. you can get em cheap too, go to the local junkyard, find a 96-00 chevy silverado. the boxy ones with the smallblock "R" code engine. check the casting number on the head, you want the last three digits to be 062, there is a 690??? code that is not good for performance options. 062's however are quite another story. so those will be cheap, have em ported and polished and there ya go again. more power, steel shim gaskets for more squeeze. for a cam, i would go with an xtream energy unit from comp cams. and you can go more than .480 in lift, buy the "bee hive" springs from comp cams.... or is it crane cams????? dont remember, but one of them offers a bee hive spring, that allows use of up to .525in lift on unmodified vortec heads. aside from that, a crank scraper is easy free horsepower, and the exhaust is a great place to go. i have heard that the 80 series muffler from flowmaster on the third gen camaros and firebirds, is worth up to 30hp, so add headers to that and a true dual system, and exhaust on a small bock is well worth the money spent. match that with the vortec heads, good cam, and good intake, and you should be making around 250hp maybe 280 or so.

335 stroker kit....good shit. Not to shaby of a price too. 600 bucks at www.enginekits.com It's the second best thing to happen to a 305, the first was to let me get ahold of it...:D

, have em ported and polished and there ya go again. more power.

I dont think a port and polish is a good idea .Ive hearn nothing but hp losses from people who have ported them. The secret to vortec horsepower is in the cobustion chamber and port design. My friend used them as is off the truck. I did not know about the beehive springs or whatever tho , do you still have to cut out the spring grooves to use them ?? pn if ya know it :)
thanks , J

havent heard about the porting power losses, so cant say anything on that. as far as the springs, to the best of my knowledge you dont have to modify anything for them. and the part number, dunno about that, but i was meaning to look it up anyway, i do know they are like 160.oo at least last time i checked.
