Hey guys, just boughty my 85 Rx-7 GS last week, and it handles like a dream :lol2: I've been reading up about it on the net. Just little sites about this and that, and I've come accross some 'interesting' stories about this and that. Some I have to wonder about. For example I came accross a few places saying that the redline on the rx-7 tach is just a suggestion, and they tell stories of Rex's revving 12k and shrugging it off. I know rotaries are much more effecient at high rpms because of rotation instead of reciprication (spelling ?), but 12 grand ? Holy freakin' A. That can't be true ... can it ?
Another confused newb. Let me know. Thanks

wow I'd have to say no, but I don't know, just seems way too high, but rx-7 love to be redlined I know that much :)

They like being redlined ? So with a strong motor it should go to redline in all 5 gears fine ? Like all the way up to 7.5k ? Strange. LOL Its such a different thing for a rotory engine. Thanks

well I don't know if your gonna get 4th and 5th to redline, I know I can't, but yea you can go up to red line before shifting every time and it will be just fine, if you don't run it up to atleast 6k for a long period of time it acctually messes the engine up and the 5th and 6th ports will get frozen shut... so yea rev that baby up :)

Is it possible that it wasn't reved like this before and these ports could already be frozen ? If so, how do I go about fixing that ? :uhoh: :sly: :banghead: That doesn't sound cheap.
Thanks again

The car did seem a little sluggish on the way home from purchasing it. How can I tell if the ports are 'frozen' or not ?

well, race tuned rotaries go 12k no problem. But a stock street engine.. you WILL cause damage, and power drops off after aobut 6500. With the ports, to check if the auxillary ports are working or not, find the actuators and put some grease on the connection rod. Then go for a spirited drive. When you get back, check and see if the grease has been moved or not.
the 85's had 13b's right? Because if it's a 12A motor, don't bother...they dont have the auxillary ports!

i believe some 85's had 13b's. Not too sure, but my friend has an 85 and whenever i would run it up to redline, a loud buzzer would go off, and that was at 7.5. I have heard of a 13b goin to the 9's without much of a problem.
also, anyone know where i can get an FC3S (preferrably a 1988 turbo 2)?
