Anybody listen to nails? I saw 3 "Tribute to NIN" cd's and was wondering if they're any good..

they're alright if you like industrial music. the cd "pretty hate machine" is definitely good and so is "the downward spiral". the whole band is only one guy though, Trent Rezonor, who has been the executive producer for Marilyn Manson since his first album.

I have all of his regular cd's, but the tributes are other artists who recreated his songs. Just wondering if the other people recreated them well.

most tribute albums suck I have heard a few different ones for different bands. it seems everyone is coming out with them.

The only one I remember is a guy from KMFDM made one of the songs..

Those tribute CDs really are a waste of money. Like vektra said, most tribute CDs are crap. Especially the Zeppelin ones.

NIN, or Trent Reznor, (because he basically has all creative control) is a great band...because their poular but still not really sold out...Trent also did the music for Quake (the game) and it's basically the best game soundtrack EVER (kiss my ass, command & conquer dorks!)

Trent also did the soundtrack for David Lynch's Lost Highway, which created one of his best songs, Perfect Drug.

And sorry goat launcher, I think the best game soundtrack award goes to GTA: Vice City. :)

what would you guys say is his best album?
it definitely has to be the downward spiral, from beginning to end that album is a masterpiece...

I have all of his cd's (halos). I'm one of his biggest fans.. fyi he also had music on The Crow and The Lost Boys soundtracks.

Anyone have the "And All That Could Have Been" DVD? Thats probably one of the most technically impressive concert DVDs I've ever seen.

I have the "Covered in Nails" tribute. Don't bother with it. I should have learned my lesson with purchasing anything put out on the Cleopatra label by now, but whatever  Actually, there are a couple good songs on it- highlights being the ones by Razed In Black, which is also probably the only band I've ever liked on that label (although sometimes you'll catch me admitting a penchant towards the works of the Electric Hellfire Club :uhoh: ) RIB covers Starfuckers Inc., and Pig (Raymond Watts) is on there as well, doing Head Like a Hole. I guess when you look at it, the CD isn't so much a BAD one (if you dig Die Krupps and the whole "Goth Metal" thing in general) but I think it is more due to the fact that no one else can truly do justice to Reznor's works.

The one I liked most was pretty hate machine. The downward spiral was alright, but too mainstreamish. Broken was great back in the day for what it was, but he's come a long way since then, i.e. the fragile (another great set). It's kind of hard to say this one is better than that one etc.. because they're all great cd's, but they all hold their own in a different way.
