Known '00 GT problems???

I am looking at buying a '00 GT with 43k miles and wondering if anyone can tell me of any known problems. I haven't seen the car yet but the owner tells me that the only thing he knows is that it might have a 5th gear synchro problem and says its a "common Eclipse problem" (says its fine if you double clutch). Anyone have any insight on this or any other common problems I should look for.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a GS, there was a problem with clutch rattle, especially when going into my second gear... It has still happened even after I switched out to ACT high friction clutch.
Anyway, I've got some friends with GTs and I've driven and worked with them quite a bit. No one's ever mentioned of any gear synchro problems on the 5th. bring it for a test drive and see for yourself. IMHO i don't think that there will be any problems with normal driving.
Other general eclipse small problems:
1) Headlight harness and wiring melting. Fix: will take u 30 mins and about 30 bucks for parts to change these out. DOn't bring to dealer they will charge u $200 and i don't think it's under warrenty.
2) Power Windows. Rattles, and finally your door won't close properly. Fix: Remove your door panel there is a very visible screw and "thingy"(black plastic thing near the botton left) that is on the glass below the visible glass area that holds the window square with the door. Tighten this if your window makes noise when going up and down or rattles when u close the door.
OTHERS: since it's about 4 years old. you should get the basic things checked when you get it as well, like engine leaks, muffler/exhuast holes/leaks and also brake sounds(Eclipses are famous for brake problems, had 3 eclipse all had brake problems...), CD player, check tire threads so and so forth.
By no means is this list complete, anyone else should add whatever they know as well and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... I'm just going by memory.

Oh I forgot the 2000 might have a SRS side air bag recall as well.

Don't forget the sunroof track. That is not cheap if it isn't under warranty. Problems with my 02 GT were sunroof track, cd changer inop, warped rotors, leather on drivers seat flaking off, interior pieces in cargo area coming loose. The clutch chatter is due to a warped flywheel, which I need to change mine also. 17" wheels bend/crack easily. When cold, if its a 5spd, sometimes really hard to shift.

Hey Dude,

I am also looking to buy a 00 GT with around 44K miles. I did some research and these are my findings.

1. Consumer report actually endorses 00 eclipse where as the 01 eclipse is not recommended.

2. Get the vin number and run a carfax report on it. It will tell you of any problems that were report on the car (accidents, odometer rollback, flooding etc).

3.If carfax approves it, take it to a mechanic and ask him to put the car on a lift and look for visible signs (leaks etc) of an accident.

4. I am also buying a bumper to bumper warranty (not from the dealer, they will surely rip you off) from an online vendor.

Best of luck with your purchase and enjoy it.

Cheers
Vic

I just bought a 2000 eclipse about 3 months ago and the transmission went in it about a few weeks ago. I had to get it replaced. That didnt make me too impressed with this car.

I got an Eclipse GS in late August before i came up to school. It's not fast by any means, but i have had no problems thus far, has ~73k miles. Clutch could be slipping a little bit, not sure though. Could be a flywheel problem, but i am tempted to get the 10lbs. flywheel that johnny is offering :)
