Gauge needle coloring

This might sound really stupid, but has anyone tried to change the orange on the back of the gauge needles to red? I just installed a really nice VDO Vision Series oil pressure gauge, and you can backlight in in red. The gauge looks great, but the needle is red too. Since it's easier to pull apart the dash instead of the VDO gauge, I was wondering if anyone has ever attemted to remove the orange on the back of the factory needles and paint them red.

The factory needles are attached to really fragile electrical gauges. If you tamper with them you might end braking the gauges(making them inoperational) cause they are really fragile. I think that JJUBECK and PAWN are into modyfying the looks of the car and they have posted sites where you get custom gauges for your GP. In my case I installed SUNPRO gages on a LOTEK 3 pods pillar and I installed orange covers to the SUNPRO gages internal lights and at night all of them look like factory installed gauges. But that is me, I like to keep the car as GM like as possible. The body kits that I have seen here are awesome but I do not want my american beauty looking like an import freak. I want it to keep the GM almost OEM styling. Now I am installing a Trasher CAI and I am trying to make it look as stock as possible

Yup, it's been done. The color is on the back of the needle. You can use either a very fine sandpaper (1500-2000 grit) or I have heard that fingernail polish remover works. After that just paint your color on. Try neon or fluorescent paint. It might not be as bright but it'll work. Also, make sure you mark where the needles were or they will be off when you put them back on. Good luck.
