My mom has a 2000 Kia Sephia, and recently her and my dad were cruising down the road and out of the blue, the check engine light came on,and teh car started spitting and sputtering. It has 68k miles on it. I also believe its throwing codes 8-9-11-& 18. when u let it idle it sputters down, and when u slightly rev it up it kinda knocks. We're thinking that the timing belt might have jumped a few teeth, could anyone give me some insight to what could be going on? thanks.

That little black cover on the top of the engine has I think 6 or eight screws in it. Remove that oand there will be 2 coils and 2 plug wires. the plug wires will be on the #1 and #3 plug wires.remove them and replace with the new ones. and you will be set. Also reset the computer by taking loose both battery cables and turnign the ignition on. and then let the battery cables be left off for at least 5 minutes. replace them and back to rollin again.

Another note on that - it is suggested that you replace your plug wires every 30k. Of course, no one told me that!!! :-)

But... problem... not in aftermarket parts yet... so you have to buy from Kia. A whole set, around $60. Yuck! For plugs!!! :-)

On my aunts kia the valve cover gasket blew out and was leaking oil down into the spark plug chamber and causing it to miss.
