Nah actually I think the 3rd gen was the best Maxima for it's time. They started the whole idea that was such a success in 4th gen. Personally when they came out in the early 90's I thought it was the best four door on the road.

3rd Gen Max's had alot of potential... they had independent rear suspension, something that us 4th gens only WISHED we had... their mechanicals are tough and everything kinda points in their favor except their age and their looks. the 3rd Gens look kinda 2 square for me, but then again there a coupla turbo 3rd Gens out there that'd make me forget bout the square looks.
for the time though they were the BEST. Honda only came out with a V6 Accord in '95 haha imagine how fun it'd be back in 1990 to smoke a riced out Accord with a stock Max.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.I personally think the 4th gen is too bubbly it looks like a damn rainbow in the back.In my opinion and lots of other peoples the 3rd gen is not too square and not to bubbly just right. The only thing it is missing is a VQ I have a VE it is the 24 valve DOHC motor 190hp and 190fl lbs of torque. But I missing the extra torque and lightweight of the VQ.But I still smoke the 2K+ V6 accords all day.

I finally got a chance to drive a 4th Gen Max the other day. Now, I'll agree that the interior is tight, but I just didn't like the feel as I mashed down on the accelerator. Now, I don't have ANY performance mods on my Max (unless you count the clogged up cat), but I'm fairly certain I can give a stock 4th Gen a run for their money! But don't get me wrong..... if I had a chance, I might, and that's a BIG 'MIGHT', upgrade to a 4th Gen. But then, they'd have to pry the keys of my 3rd Gen from my dead, cold fingers. :badass:
