I have a 95 neon. Its been nothing but problems ever since i bought it. I go through head gaskets and thermostats like mad. The car was the last thing my father-in-law bought before he died. getting rid of it is not an option. Any how now its getting sluggish when I step on the gas. It has several other problems too. I got jacked by the dealer when I took it in there, Im frustrated and looking for common problems in the coolant and fuel systems. I called the manu. and they told me to buy a new car with a warrenty if I want help from them. Any suggestions???????????

try to change the spark plugs and plug wires , see if you air filter is good , or try changing the fuel filter but save the fuel filter for last because i think the filter is in the tank its self. get some fuel cleaner , maybe your injectors are dirty. you can also try using the high prices moble gas for a few weeks if you are using regular gas. moble has very good cleaning gas.

The radiator cap on Neon's will cause big time cooling headaches. Change that out before anything else. The headgaskets are another Neon downfall. You may want to look around and ask on neons.org. I know there are a few people there that have had dodge pay part or all of the cost on a headgaskets. :2cents:

But the headgasket should NOT be a problem any more if it was replaced PROPERLY. If you have had more than one HG installed, get a new mechanic because you're getting screwed.

On the sluggish performance, plugs and wires usually fix the problem. You may also look at air filter O2 sensors (upstream usually), Throttle position sensor, crank sensor, in that order.

Have you tried to cycle the key (on-off-on-off-on-off-on) to get any codes?

The head gasket was done by a very good ASE certified mechanic. I know it was done right. I watched every step of the way. We're are now going through the codes one by one and checking everything, but its only giving me 2 digit codes with the key. I'm going to try replacing the 02 sensors may as well do both while im we're there. I'm thinking that this car was 1. stolen at some point. 2. I know it wasn't properly taken care of. ( I love my sister and everything but she doesn't know how to take care of cars, does't understand that if you don't take care of them they dont last) 3. wrecked at some point I need to get a carfacts on it. Thank you all for your suggestions and im checking anything so, everything helps.

That would be the first time I've ever heard of a blown headgasket on the new-design headgasket. ASE certs or not, something wasn't done properly. Unless of course the engine was overheated at some point. Then all bets are off.

Oh, two-digit codes will be all you get on a G1 Neon. http://www.neons.org/faq/FAQ_ET.html#OBD

Before you replace the O2 sensors, have them checked, because they are not cheap, and they are very easy to check.
