jetta backfires under load

95 2.0 jetta stick,just had tune-up plugs cap rotor fuel filer injector cleaner ,runs fine at idle wont pull over 3000 under load without backfiring,was run low on gas just before fuel filter was changed,everything looks ok plugs read nice all cyls burning cleancar ran good just started this ,driving down the road anybody have any ideas,thanks

Check the engine codes. If it started after the tune-up parts, check them first. Plug type & gap, cap & rotor quality/properly seated, wire condition/resistance.... It also could be the coil starting to break down.

sounds to me like you may have an ignition timing problem, maybe a mistake was made when installing the rotor along with the cap and plugs, retarted ignition timing can often lead to backfiring and power loss depending on how severely retarted it is, or if there is no power loss could be too advanced, especially if u dont have a knock sensor to retard the timing once it starts knocking under load..........
