I am working on restoring a 1967 Rambler, it sat outside for almost 20 years without being even touched. I was wondering if I have to do anything do my gas tank. Someone told me that it has most likely rusted and has to be dropped and cleaned out. He recommended some slosh stuff or something...

Is this something I even need to do?? I really don't want to if I don't have to!

THANKS, JOSH

At the very least drop the tank. remove the sender unit and look inside with a flashlight. Likely it will be rusty, dirty, with old gasoline varnish residue. Take it ti a car wash and power wash the inside of the tank throughly. If its still got rust, get the tank boiled and coated by a gas tank rebuilder. Sometimes radiator shops can do this too. If you leave a rusty tank in there be prepared to change the fuel filter every tankful.

Also, use a Sawzall to cut off the trailer hitch or cut it off with an oxy acetylene torch AFTER you remove the gas tank.
