Hi I have a 97 villager and when I turn the sterring on the highway it makes a grinding sound any thoughts on what to check.

check your power steering fluid...may just be low.....but you'll also need to check the whole system (especially the hydraulic hoses going to the steering rack itself) it may be leaking which lowers your fliud and the gears rub against each other causing the grinding.......

I just bought it today so the problem was brief. I am starting to think it has something to do with the transmission since when I go from 0-60 straight no turns it makes this vibrating sound that feels like it is from the tranny. the tranny shifts smooth no slips or hard shifting at all. I also noticed that the left tire which is mainly the side I hear the noise is worn out more than the rest.

check your stabilizer links and other steering components for loose bolts.......

Everything looks good from the ground but I will have to wait till Monday to get it on the lift for a better look. I will post my findings in hopes of helping others.

I just found the problem. I had a bad right axle. I purchased a rebuilt one for 40 bucks and it works great no more grinding sound.
