Dads 93 Cavalier Won't Start

Hi....My Dads 93 Cavalier Wagon died this morning while warming up in the driveway....anyway, there's no power going to the purple wire that connects to the starter solenoid, which incidentally was replaced a few hours ago (whole starter not just solenoid).
Question....where does the wire route from? Ignition switch in the steering column?? Is there a fuse on this line or a fusible link somewhere on that wire?? Should I check for voltage on the starter crank wire in the ignition harness while turning the key forward?
Sorry, I know a bit about auto electronics but not a whole lot. I hope I've provided enough info.
