I have a Cougar V6 and I love it. I did some exhaust modifications and I have a K&N filter. I haven't lowered it or gotten rims, or anything else. I kind of want to get some sort of forced induction too. Anybody else have a cougar?

Black 4banger 2000 baby! Gotta get me a K&N, does it really make that much of a difference??? I am not much of a car guy, but trying to learn more and more now that i have some new wheels :-)

The Filter really changed the noise it makes. Now it sounds a lot deeper:D It also helped for horsepower a little. If you have any questions just ask.

Have you found any nitrous, turbo, or supercharger kits for your car yet? I don;t know of any off-hand, but if you are looking I will keep my eyes peeled for them. I know there is always the services of turbochargers.com, but at about $6,000 for a custom-built turbocharger, hopefully you have other options. :D

Well, I want to stay NA as long as I can and just do motor stuff. I want to try and get some stuff done to the head like a port and polish, stiffer valve springs and bigger valves, and I'd like to do cam work too. Oh, I also want to go to dual exhaust, but I'll need to buy headers first.

I don't have any decals. I don't like em, but I don't think they're bad at all. I want to get a windshield banner, but I don't know what color. My car is white, and I was thinking either white or red would look good.

What year cougars are you guys driving? I have a 2000 Mustang, which has the 3.8, similar the RWD Cougars. I put a K&N filter, using the Mac cold air kit, it added about 15 HP.
Has anyone put dual exhaust on one yet?

Sounds some good plans that you have for your car. Do they (as in anyone) make larger valves that are compatible with your engine? Also for staying NA, may I suggest a good old kick to your fuel delivery system, i.e. larger capacity fuel pump, rails, injectors, and fuel injector stacks.. especially with your K&N, this should help add some more power.

I'm driving a 1994 Cougar SE, 4.6L V8. Great car. Haven't done any modifications yet, but I'd like to if anyone has good suggestions for initial mods. I've heard over and over to ditch the stock air filter, so I've been thinking about doing that soon.

you guys should come over to www.newcougar.org. there is more than enough info on these cars. i have been a member there for a little over a year and i wouldnt know half of the things i know if it wasnt for that site.i have a weapon r intake and it sounds great and a custom borla dual exhaust. that is all the performance parts i have but i have 18" speedy hyper fangs with pirelli tires, dragon z front bumper with piaa fogs. visteon side skirts. wings west rear and head and taillight covers and all of the windows have limo tint on them and a mad ass stereo system. i know a lot about our cars so if you have any questions just shoot.later.

Yep I used to frequent NECO. All of the store bought intakes actually decrease hp because it puts it in a heat sinc though. 1999 V-6 MTX. Yet to have a problem with my cougar. Got to check out that custum turbo place. Would save me alot of time. I was thinking of rigging my own set up.

I own a '95 Cougar XR7 V8. Pearl white with tan leather interior, 5.4L 310HP crate engine (looks like factory 4.6L), now has 340HP on dyno with chip and exhaust work. Rides like a charm but with more horses and faster than a Mustang GT. Has factory AOD-E. No problems yet now at 61,380 mi.

The Cougar is expensive around here, or was? Is it in sell still, too bad they plan to take it out of the market, that is a great sports coupe.

For you guys and gals with the older RWD Cougars, here's a little tidbit for you. The RDW Couger is a Fox body platform, just like the Mustang. T-Birds, LTD's, Fairmonts, and Capris of that era are also. Anyway, Mustang parts will work on the cars I just mentioned. Check out Hot Rod. com for a purple Fairmont hopped up with Mustang goodies. There's a LTD there also. Just type Fairmont in the search box and it should take you to their story. Hope this helps!;)

My friend has a 99 cougar and we built a CAI which ran down to his left foglight which we detached and that gave us an increidble increase in hp by at least 8 hp with a upper and lower manifold and port and polished he is running around 200hp. which isnt that bad speaking it takes a good bit to get hp out of this car not like a honda or vw 1.8t. and the next step is buying a 3.0 with a turbo kit. to get around 300+hp. but you could also go the route of a 2.8 with supra pistons with a turbo. running at around 25 psi. where the 3.0 without turbo runs at 8psi. just a little tid bit of information.

HI I recently bought a 95' cougar xr7 V8 with 129k miles
I keep getting check engine light on. I have changed my PFR sensor and the mechanic suggested that some throttle body or something needs to be cleaned.
I need to know how much generally does it costs to get it cleaned.
Your help will be appreciated.
Thankx

Talk to kinger over on contour.org or neco about getting your heads ported and polished. For my 3.0L heads, it cost me $950 for a port and polish, resurfacing, installation of new valve springs, 6 point cfm chart, etc.
As for stiffer valve springs go with the Mondeo ST220 3.0L valve springs.
Bigger valves...3.0L duratec valves.
Cam work...your gonna have to go custom for that.

Well the port and polish is a good Idea as well as the cam and valve components but as a mechanic and an import guru I would recommend against the dual exhaust if it is a 4 cyl. if not then by all means go ahead with the duals. because with a 4 cyl. it will make no differance in the H.P rating and you'll just be wasting your money.

if you want big power (well big compared to stock) and want to stay NA. a 3.0L duratec will fit nicely in a new cougar. get some 2.5 svt heads(off a contour svt) a little bit of port and polishing add some 3.0L valves to those heads and you will have a very nice NA engine that looks completely stock.
