I have a 91 Bonneville and when I start to accelerate from a stop the car rumbles. It feels as though you are riding on the rumble strips on the highway, just for a few seconds, and then it rides just fine. Anyone have any suggestions or have had this problem in the past?

Have the brakes been acting funny? When you take off, does it seem to "Let Go" and then be fine, or does it ease up and finally quit?

What I was going after is you may have a wheel binding up on you when you apply the brakes (it doesnt want to let go) Next time, take it for a short drive and use the brakes a few times, lean on them one last time and get out and feel your rims. BE CAREFUL, one (or two) might be "real" hot. Just an idea, if you find nothing, I would start looking at the transmission, has it been serviced lately (fluid and filter)? Convertor could be loose.

Did you find anything out on this yet? My brother's 1990 Olds 88 is doing the same thing. It rumbles in first gear but is smooth in all others. I'm figuring the trans is on its way out, but would be curious if there are other possibilities.
