I have a 93 Dodge intrepid with 111000 miles. The trany is really acting up, so I cralled under to look at it, and it looks like it has already been droped, and replaced, or rebuilt once. I was wondering if maybe the codes needed claired, or if there was an easy fix. What it does is as folows: When you start it, you have to let it worm up about 5 minutes, then it has second gear. Let it worm up another 10 minutes and it has reverse. This is all it has, untill you shut off the car. Once it is warm, you shut off the car, and start it again, and it has all the gears, and drives with not problems. Anyone have any clue what it is? Or do I just need to replace the trany? Thanks

It does sound like it has gone into 'limp mode' which needs immediate attention. Go to the best transmission shop you can, NOT the cheapest. It could be a solonoid, computer software. full blown tranny damage or even the wrong brand of fluid in the tranny. If any mechanic ever advises that Dexron works as good as ATF in Dodges you are in the wrong shop!

I have a 95 with 154000 miles on it, and is on it,s fourth transmission. I would probably say it is very close to being a total goner.

Thanks for the reply. I have a concorde at 136000 on it's original, and this one is acting a little better, I cleaned it, and changed the filter, now it only takes a couple minutes to work, that's when it is like -20, at like 40 it takes less than a minute, just have to find out what will fix it the rest of the way, someone told me it could be that it does not have enough ground. Thanks
