Flashers buzzing

I have a 97 Intrepid. When you turn on the signal lights or the 4 way flashers, they don't work and I hear a loud buzzing under the dash. There is a large module of some sort close to the firewall on the left hand side that has a large plug going into it. If I unplug that plug the buzzing stops. What is this module, why is it buzzing, and how much does it cost to replace?

That sounds like your flasher relay. Mine just clicked once every time I flipped the blinker on. It would come on as long as the blinker was down, but it did not flash. I replaced it and the new relay clicked the same way. Is the box you mentioned under the dash? That might be the one causing my problems too. I read that there are two boxes that control the flashers, but I have been unable to locate the other one which is causing my problem. I think they are all cheap, less than $10 probably. Thanks!

The box I have found is up under the dash, very hard to reach. You really need to take the cover off under the dash to see it. It is way up in there on the left. It is a large module about 3x3x1 inches in size. It has a 7 or 8 wire plug going into it. When the signals are turned on it just buzzes , sort of sounds like the door ajar alarms used to sound when they were buzzers. I would try to replace it but I just can't reach it very easily and I am afraid of wrecking something. I just wanted to get an idea of the cost to replace. Thanks!

That might be my problem box. I get most of my parts from a local salvage dealer (southern Ohio) who charges about half the price of the generic stuff, and WAY less than the factory replacements. He is strictly mopar and has tons of low mileage cars for parts. I will check out that box on my car and let you know what happens. Thanks again for the help!

Since mine is a 98, it might not be the same because there aren't any boxes under my dash like that. I did find out one important thing, the flasher relays are different than the other relays although they are identical in appearance. I went to Auto Zone and the guy gave me a regular relay which caused the problem. I am going to order a flasher relay through the dealer so I know it is right this time. Good luck on yours! Thanks again
