3000GT vs. Celica?

1994 3000GT SL versus a 2002 Celica GT, who would win?

VR4 or no, if it's a VR4 then there's no comparison. I dont know about just a stock 3000GT though, dont know how those are performance wise.

SL is a mid 15-second car, while the Celica GT is a high 15, low 16-second car.

i say the 3000gt

this one would come down to driver.

No it won't. The Celica GT is SLOW. You must be thinking of the Celica GT-S. I was being overly generous when I said the GT is a high 15-second car.

lol GT is 140 HP and GT-S is 180 but in third gear the lift kicks in and gives extra power. I change question now, GT has no chance, what about GT-S however?

Celica GT-S -
180 HP @ 7600RPM
Torque - 130 @ 6800RPM
Weight - 2500 lbs

3000GT SL -
222 HP @ 6000RPM
Torque -205 @ 4500RPM
Weight - 3200 lbs

Now Make Decision Please

well, when you said one was high 15's, and other was mid 15's, then it would come down to driver.
I know the celica is slow, but I didn't know it was THAT slow, I was taking your word on it.
All things being equal, I would take the 3000gt in both comparisons. Based on those numbers, it makes it's power much sooner than the celica.

This is a race between a couple of slow cars. See if you can find a minivan too follow behind and film it. ;)

I'd give the nod to the SL. Its got a wider power band.

If it were the 3000GT SL vs. the Celica GT I would say the SL would win. However, if it were SL vs. the GT-S I would say the GT-S would win.

you guys should have compared the celica gt to the base model 3kgt

gt-s would beat the sl (stock vs stock, equal drivers)

gt-s usually runs 15.1-2 and takes nicely to bolt-ons. guy i know w/ one runs high 14's w/ only a i/e. they're pretty quick...for a toyota :icon16: j/k

The SL is the base model 3000GT.

The SL is the base model 3000GT.

No it isn't. The base model has a 160HP SOHC V6, and is slow as a dog, and will probably barely tie a 1979 Celica, LOL.

I know, I beat one of those with my old Civic LX.

This thread is so wrong on so many levels...but I'm embarassed to say that I giggled a little bit at the end.

Really, are you sure? I thought the SL was the same as the ES Stealth, but I guess it is the same as the RT instead?

Dead positive: http://www.123review.com/reviews/mitsubishi/99_mitsubishi_3000gt_summary_specs.html

Check that, although they messed-up on the SL's motor (they put 2.0 instead of 3.0).

The base had a SOHC 3.0 V6, whereas the SL had a DOHC 3.0 V6.

never heard of anything so true. i meant to tell you carnut that i once seen a race between a sentra that looked just like yours with exhaust and it beat an sl 3kgt like 3 times in a row, they must have raced like 10 times and i believe the 3kgt only one 2 or 3 times

Oh, I see, yeah the SL is the same as the RT. Color me corrected! :iceslolan

The Sentra owner mis-shifted 2 or 3 times, then...:P

You showed the specs of a 99 SL, I imagine that Mitsu decreased the stats of the car then. the 94 Base and SL both have 222 HP and 3200 lbs, the SL just has leather and power options as well as DOHC where as the base lacks those and has a SOHC. I think the SL and GT-S would be a close race and probably be dependent on driver if it were stock for stock.
