327 > 86ta

Hay everybody i bought a 70 impala with a 327 in it. What is the Hp and what can i easyly get out of it. Plus i've got a 350 that someone called a spitfire??? that i want to make into a 383 is a picky block to do this?

well, an old 327 is nothing to scoff at. it's a good motor but i couldn't tell you how much you could get out of it without knowin how much money you feel like spending. the thing with old motors is that they were built for one thing alone..... be REALLY MEAN. they were built with hp in mind. aftermarket for small block chevy's is pretty nice and you can really tune them up and have a lot of power. and in an impala that'd be even nicer. but there is definitly a lot of potential with deep enough pockets. but that's not to say you can't get more power out of it on a budget. it all depends on what you're looking for and what you want to do.

I think the engen was made in 68 but im not sure. I'm looking to go headers, cam, turbo, intake, 750carb, 10 1/2 inch clutch; and should i blue print/balence it. I think after that the cars getting restored.

well that definitly sounds like a great start for either engine you mentioned. My guess would be that all that you talked about doing to it would bring you to about mid to high 300's in hp. thought im not sure that you can turbo older engines. i've never heard of that, but if you can then you'd definitly be in the 400's. sounds pretty good so far though. good luck on the restoration too. have fun and if you need anything else the forum is always here.

Thanks for all the help. The only problem with the 327 is its already 10-10.5:1 comp. which is all right since i'm thinking of geting new heads.
