I'm cruising on the freeway last night, and I change lanes to get around this slower car. There was a white stock 6th gen 4dr. EX that happened to be in the lane I moved into. He was aways back from where I was, but apparently somewhere between 70 and 75mph wasn't fast enough for him. So he moves to the lane on our right, and there's a slower car coming up ahead of him, and I knew his plan was to cut me off at the pass you could say so he wouldn't break his stride. I didn't feel like getting cut off, so when he moved and sped up, I punched it to the floor and best he could do was get even with my bumper, but wasn't able to pass so he had to hit the brakes of course as we reached 85mph and then I just kept it there for a few moments. :owned:
I just kinda laughed about it but slowed back down to my original pace. I was quite surprised he couldn't pass though. Sure my engine is modded, but I'm not expecting that much from an intake, exhaust and adjustable FPR set to 5psi. higher than stock. Either SOHC VTEC is just over rated, or my mods are doing more for me than I had thought. Both my intake and exhaust are claimed to add more to my mid end which is where most passing acceleration happens at.

A DX with some bolt-ons is about the same as its older brother. My buddy and I both got our cars around the same time and would race them stock, and the winner would be whoever hit the gas first.. (me - '00 dx hatch, him - '00 ex coupe)

nice 1/2 kill 1/2 don't let the biatch pass move...
the ex's aren't much more than the dx's like rico said, my buddy's 94 dx (sri), can beat my other friens 7th gen ex (sri) no problem.

I 've been screwing with civics for ab 7 yrs now always dx , I guess thats why i'm always into the sleeper look.
It has never been uncommon for guys in EX's to ask what i had done
And look amazed when I would say that it was a D15, and that it was all motor.
Although now EX's can't even dream of getting close enough to ask without turbo. love my swap it is all i had hoped and dreamed now i just want a turbo. b18 c1.

that happens to me a lot on the freeway. i usually just let it go...but sometimes when ive had enough of the cutting...i do what you did. :evillol: it sometimes just pisses me that some people have to cut you just to go a little faster when it wont make that much of a difference.

My guess is either he was a 5-speed and didn't downshift at all or enough (I'm auto so mine auto downshifts when I punch it anyways) or the weight differance between coupe and 4dr. really made is presence known. It's not motor, because even with my mods he still had at least a 10-12hp advantage over me, and we all know how in Civics every last hp number counts. :uhoh:

congratulations!!!!i like hearing those stories!yea i think that it has alot to do with driver...my cousin has a modded out civic hatchback with a 95 Si engine that was swapped and new cams and intake and injen exhaust and stripped all the rear seats he bought from some guy cause hes rich and saw the fast and the furious.....and i can beat him by like 1 car and half because he didnt know that redline is where to shift..he was shitfting at like 5000 rpms?? ha ha even though on his car redline was like 7500?..but he just didnt know..and all i have is a 97 ex 2 dr vtec with a new cold air intake and a cheap aftermarket exhaust.
question...was the civic modded out?like did he have rims or exhaust or anything?also is a 4 door ex a stick??? how much lighter is the 2dr ex or lx as compared to the 4dr?
cool..nice story

if u read his post, the civic was a white four door and stock.
btw, on some cars...redline isn't the point u want to shift at. for some u'll reach ur peak power before this point and should shift before ur powerband drops off.
also, u do know that except for the cams, ur two motors make about the same power? so it would be a drivers race (which is props to u then.)
a 4 door ex can come in either a 5 speed manual, or an auto. the 2 door dx weighs in at only 2359, where the 4 door ex (more options) weighs around 2513.

god I hate it when people try to do that... when people try to do that to me I not only cut them right off but then I sit there next to the car in the right lane for a few seconds just to get my point across

haha, I did that too. That's when he broke to my left across 2 lanes to get back to the speed he was going. Whatever though, but for those moments that I messed him up with what I did, I'm sure he felt like an ass for thinking he could get by me by cutting me off and then me shutting him down. :iceslolan

there sure seems alot of EX hating going on in this thread...silvery2kcivic was just sharing a cool story about his victory.....but it seems like maybe afew of us are like bitter or something that they dont have the vtec...be happy that you can beat a vtec! with your swap...and yes i think thats true... my friends lx is quicker than a few ex's that i have seen...and i do get pissed that alot of people use their vtec as their "cure all race machine, that can beat any thing in the world" so yes i can see how you guys hate some ex guys.. but he isnt an EX basher....oh well...im sure now ill get hate mail from some of guys telling me that i should go to hell and just burn my vtec or sell it in my garage sale for $10...

first off , how do you know that he didnt just get a phone call saying his mother died or somethin ?? he may have had an emergency situation and needed to get around you , thats why he broke off 2 lanes over after yall's little incident . even if he didnt have an emergency , some people like to drive a little or alot faster that others , being that he had a somewhat performance type civic he may have just been having some fun in it . Im not trying to justify his actions but you speeding up didnt make it any safer for any of the cars around you. So what you get cut off , who doesnt ?? some people wanna get where they are going alot faster than others so they need to do what is necessary , in a safe manner that is ....

Pardon me, but no moron is going to get anywhere fast by driving in the slow lane, which is where he moved to when this went down. If he had an emergency he should have gone AROUND me, not ride my ass for a couple minutes before going around me. Yeah, some emergency... :disappoin

D16Y8s are whack - I can't wait to get mine swapped out for a B18C/R1 (GSR block). The 2000 Civic Si weighs in at 2513, but it comes with a DOHC B16A which is obviously a little heavier then a D16Y8 (that comes in the EX trim) because it's got one more Cam and Cam gear, a longer timing belt, and a thicker block and wider head and valve cover. (probably not more then 10 lbs heavier though) - all of which is negated depending on how much gas either car has got in it. As soon as I've got enough money to swap my engine, I want to find someone with a stock EX to race me that also has an automatic so I can see where my driving skills lay.

I raced a silver 97ex, the guy was a pizza delivery guy (LOL!) and he was just cruzin by in a 35mph zone and then he punched it. He slowed down and when I got even with him... he (already in 2nd, you could hear his engine winding) got on it again. I threw down into second and walked all over him. THen he signaled for me to pull over. He was like "What kind of swap do you have a b16?" My car was stock except for heavier than stock 16" rims and a custom cat back system. He thought I was lying  so I had to open my hood and show him, hehe.
He had 5spd with a dc sports header, some kind of cat-back system (I think it was dc also), plug wires, and a hot air intake. I was kind of suprised, but more than that I was humored by the guy.
I also ran a 99-00 ex 2dr stick when I was on my way back from mississippi to alabama on the interstate. My friend was with me and we have a bunch of crap in the car, and the guy does a couple of flybys... then I asked him if he wanted to run. The only mod that was visible was exhaust, which is probably all that he had. We stayed dead even from about 70-110 both times we ran. Then a black ITR crept up on us and the guy in the ex tried running him, I just watched :p

I mean to race them with the current block that I've got in my car right now before swapping - I'm getting a new engine anyways right why not have one last hurrah with the current engine in my car?
