cooling fans not working unless a/c is on

3.1 SE cooling fans not working unless a/c is on. Temp reaches 240 and higher and still no fans. Slight leak in head gasket. Runs hot in traffic. HELP!!

maybe your fan relay is shot..that's the thing that commands the cooling fans...when the ecm detects a rise in cooling temp..replace that..it's the same as the a/c relay that starts the fan...
