Getting Intake/Header/Exhaust...where to start?

Before I start, the post 'I' made about the B16 engine was my friend posting about his car. He occasionally uses this name on here cuz he's too lazy to make his own...

Okay, so I'm a senior in high school and everyone has to do a "senior project" to graduate...its like one huge project thing.

Anyway, my project is to install an intake/header/exhaust onto my Civic. Since its school-related, my mommie is buying it yay!

Anyway, I needed some help on where to start with prices and what to get. I want the most HP possible without paying hella money.

Is a $500 limit too low for the whole thing? I'm gonna need a spending limit too I think...If it's over $800 or so I think its too much.

My car is a 1993 Honda Civic Ex. A D16Z6 engine...uh..1.6L. I think that's all you need to know.

So please, someone help me on where to start and what to get!

Thanks alot.

For $500 for I/H/E, you're gonna have to buy used, or Ebay some "POS" (piece of sh**) generic stuff.

And how did you get a IHE upgrade approved as a senior project? That's like saying my senior project is to buy a PS2 and play through GT4.... good job anyways.

Typical good deal for new
$150 CAI (AEM)
$275 421 header (DC Sports)
$450 cat back system (Apex'i)
-----
$875

For senior project..we just have to do something thats a "challenge" and is something that we can "learn" from. The hardest part of the project is the 3000 word paper. We have to do a presentation including visual aids that's 12 minutes long. And the project itself must take at least 15 hours. So I'm gonna include looking for the supplies in my project.

Thanks for the prices...now I just gotta talk the parents into it ;)

its alot of money man. please dont buy any p.o.s off ebay. look in the classified sections and whatnot for deals on used parts. also ask around your town.

junk yard turbo kit would make a nicer project. And you would have a lot more to talk about and write down for the paper and presentation.

My cousin was able to put one together for around $800 using a mitsu eclipse turbo and side mount IC.

holy jesus, that's the exact same criteria I had for my senior project. A few kids did it on modding there cars...too bad their projects and cars sucked at the end.

If your 93 has the original engine it is probably getting up there in miles. You could buy and rebuild a d series engine with less than 50k on it for about 500 bucks.. if that.

The benefits would be three-fold:
1. You learn a ton about honda engines.
2. You have a spare engine if your current engine fails.
3. If you want to add turbo, you have an engine with a long life left to use.
