How much do rear bumpers cost?

I ran into the back of a late 90's Civic Hatchback yesterday and I think I did some damage underneath to the bumper brackets. Anyone have any rough estimates as to how much, or how easy it is to fix Honda collision damage? I am wondering if we should involve the insurance company or if I should cut her a check.

if you just damged the rear bumper, that shell should be about seventy dollars plus paint, but if you damaged the rear support bar undernneath or anything involving rear suspension or the insides of the rear fenderwells, i would involve the insurance company. i got clipped one time and thought i could just make it go away with 300 bucks, and it turned out to be more like 2300 bucks. if you just cut her a check make sure you account for labor, many shops will charge 50xhour for paint labor and 80xhour for mechanical labor plus the price of their extremely price inflated oem parts.

thanks for the quick response. I think the damage was only to the bumper and the brackets. I'll ask her to go get a quote because she said she was cool with not telling the insurance.
