where to start

i got a 2003 Sentra XE (it was basically free...so i had NO intention of turning it down)
ive got a 1.8l dohc in there now (i dunno model # for it...im still new to modding and i havent learned everything yet)
im prob gonna wait at least a couple years before i do the full swap, but then again that all depends how much someone is willing to give me for this engine (only has 3400 miles on it)
all i kno is this engine doesnt have a lot of capabilities as far as racing goes...and rather than waste the money of buying new parts for a basically useless engine...id rather get the new engine...start building it ...get it rebuilt the way i want (figure new pistons...header...rods... valves/springs...cam(s)...crank.... etc) and ill do the actual swap once everythings done
or is there a site that sells like JUST the engine block? and all add my own shit to it later?
i plan on doing a full engine swap...i dont see the point in keeping this engine ...especially where its an automatic.
im kinda directing this at SR20de4eva ... he seems to be the local expert
any idea on where i can start?
ive already added the badass stereo system... all Alpine Type S speakers... 2 1241D 12in subs in a custom built box running on an mrp-350 700watt mono amp
it sounds nasty :D
1.) whats teh best engine to get (within reason)
2.) whats the best place to start with modding? (i figured id start with a cold air intake...but everythings still up in there air)
3.) anyone kno some good sites for body kits / vinyl / asthetic pieces?
for the above... moneys no option..if i want something ill save until i can get it...get it installed and running well... my problem is looking at where to start
any help is appreciated

Your best bet for an engine swap is a det, but I'm afraid how much it will end up running once you factor in all the extra parts you will need to get it in. Lucky for you, the 00-01 SE came with an sr20de, which is nearly identical to the sr20det. If you could find an SE at a junk yard you'd be able to take nearly everything you would need for a det swap (mounts, tranny, etc). For the engine itself, www.jgycustoms.com seems to be a pretty reliable source. You won't need to do any internals like you're planning on, since the det can handle >400whp before you even have to touch the bottom end.
As for the body kits, I can't really help you. I'm not much of a cosmetics person myself, so I've never really looked into it ;)

thanks man
i kno its not necessary to rebuild the bottom end
but...im gonna have 2 engines for a while...
im leaving the stock engine in it
and getting the sr20de (hopefully out of a junkyard near my house..i kno the dude who owns it i might get it free :D ) and im gonna mount it to a 2x4 stand.. im rebuilding the whole engine top to bottom...get everything totally badass that i want...then when i finish it..take a week off work and get it swapped.. that way i dont need to *not* have a car for a while
besides...my current engine oughta fetch a good price from the dealership i got the car from (only has 3400 miles on it... and i drive the car usually under 5k miles a year)

you could get a regular sr20de pretty cheap, but it'll cost you a lot more to buy that, build it up, and then turbo it than it will to get a det and just upgrade the fuel delivery and turbo
And honestly, upgrading the internals is a waste. It doesn't matter if you can afford it or not, it's just a waste. Your car's chassis simply cannot hold the power that you would need to make internals worthwhile. Anything up to 400whp can be held by a det reliably, and at that power you won't even get traction until 4th gear. That's if your transmission could even handle it without blowing apart.
Take the money you would put into internals and upgrade the drivetrain instead (transmission, axles, clutch, etc)

yeah..i understand what you're saying...and it makes sense
but even IF i got a det and upgraded from there
it'd be smart to upgrade to forged pistons and rods as well...prob new cam and rollers and pins and whatnot...im planning on adding Nitrous eventually...im setting this up so i can race it
i live ~ 45 minutes from New England Dragway (IHRA track) and Louden (Nascar track) ... and they often have races and drags especially for riced out imports...i wanna race in those :D
