Aftermarket Tachometer

I want to install an aftermarket tach in my 98 Escort 1.6 Zetec.
Question; Where do I hook it up to?
Is there a wire coming out of the ECU for it, if so what color is it, does it come from the top or the bottom of the ECU?
Can I hook it to the coil in the engine compartment, if so where is it and what color is it?

I have the very same question about the '97 Escort sedan with the 2.0 motor... Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

I can't seem to find the answer to this either.. I know this is an older post so if you've found out by now let me know.

OK, remove the dash, since all the gauge wiring is in a wiring box sumwhere under the dashboard. Older cars such as oldsmobiles and buicks hav the wiring box in a small openable compartment on the dash, but newer ones have to remove dash board cover. Now, the tricky part is, which color to plug in the tach?!?!?!?!?? if it doesn't come with a tach standard, that can be tricky. But try pluggin em all in. After all, it is quite worth it since u get to rev the engine right?
