Does anyone know if its possible to swap the Newer Subie eng. in to the older model. As in....a 2002 into a 2001?

Yes it is highly possible. I personally want to first purchase an old impreza and then swap the ej20tt (legacy motor)into it. But using a newer wrx engine is very doable.

This question comes up way too often. Basically, any engine from any Impreza can be swapped into any other Impreza. Most Subaru 4 cylinders are interchangable, even the ones from Bajas, or Legacys will change with Imprezas.

Unless you have a RHD car you'll have to custom make the manifolds so that one of the turbos won't hit the master cylinder. and move the battery to the trunk iirc. It's probably better to get an ej22t engine (a`la the basis of the 22b powerplant) and start there. Or the new STI engine is even better with 300/300 and displacement to spare.
