emissions info

I was asked a question a few days ago and I seem to have forgot who asked and can't locate the thread, sorry. The question was if I knew how to pass a CA smog test, and being from AL I have never really thought of emissions. I don't even have a smog pump. I had no answer at the time but after giving it some thought I have a couple of ideas that might help. Since I don't know your mod list I'm not sure how far you have to go. I assume that passing this test is mandantory and you can't get around it. If your parts list is heavy it might be easier to slip the dude a 20 a 50 a 100 or whater it takes. It may be necessary to even swap stock parts back in, just for the test. A hot cam may be a problem, an E you might get by with. Every time the cam chops it is acutually allowing the engine to misfire, allowing the unburned fuel to excape the combustion chamber. If your cats are not hot enough they will not burn this excess waste. Make sure your smog pump is in working order. Try lowering the TPS signal and play with your timing. I have been told that pouring a little ATF into your intake with your engine running may help clean it up. Swith to a higher temperature thermostat. The hotter an engine and exhaust the easier it will be for the cats to do their job. Maybe someone else has more info to add to this. I really don't believe there is an easy fix to this, depending on your setup, but I know you'll do whatever you have to do to keep your stang on the road. Good luck and keep us informed.
