WOOT!

First, duplicate your layer/copy & paste as new layer. Then, go under your color adjustments menu and play around with your color curves till it looks like this... I like the blue cause it gives the resulting black a VERY rich look...
http://www.automotivetech.org/photopost/data/525/427blacktut1.jpg
Then go under your hue/saturation/lightness adjustments, put the saturation as low as it will go so it turns black, and adjust the lightness until you have the desired shade. Then clean up your badges and stuff, and you get....
BAM
http://www.automotivetech.org/photopost/data/525/427blacktut2-med.jpg
Note that the lines and highlights are pretty well preserved. Not quite as good as Omicron's, but close, and easier to do than the version he had up on psc.com. I used PaintShop Pro 8 to do the dodge, and I did a viper earlier in photoshop. Photoshop is much more sensitive with the color curves... Doing that in paintshop didn't take but 10 minutes or so. :) Enjoy

lol, glad you find my way long and exentive. :P
It takes me like 5 minutes to do black, if that. Most of my time is spent outlining the car/truck. It's only long if you can't do it right. :)

wow, we got the same problems.. i mean, coloring is easy, the selection part takes time.. nice example.

omicron... for whatever reason, when I used your method, photoshop like refused to change the color to that green tint... so I found a way around it :)
GirlBear... you'll get yours when I get back from the club... wanna see a full car done? You got it.

Hmm, it's an ok tutorial, needs work, but it's 1 of the many ways to do these things.
btw, that car looks pretty grey, more grey than black. Trust me, if you people take the time and read carefully over my tutorial, you'll find it works. I'm not the best at putting these things to words cause it comes naturally to me, it's like a reaction. I've done many black cars, and none of 'em look grey. :nono:
:) :2cents:
