blower airflow direction not working

When I turn the dash switch to front defrost the baffle change to direct the air toward the front window. Any other switch position stays in the vent position. What could be wrong. My Haynes wiring diagram is of no help because it shows two switch decks that would not let it change anyway. It used to work. Help.
