Recently purchased my Iroc88 5.7TPI, at first everyting was OK, it run like a beast, I didnt really expect that kind of perfomance from a car with 160K on, but its O2 sensor then died off (probably it was a result of misfiring-old plugs-too much resistance), then worse, the cat-converter got pluged because of the sensor (big $$$ to replace) and now it wont start. The car has been in storage for about a month , tepperature dropped down and I had to warm it up every 3 days. I have noticed that when I start to crank it in the morning, it fires perfectly, but it still needs a little bit more gas, otherwise it dies. It only happens when the engine is cold. I suspect it might the 9th ingector. I has a new heavy duty battery, I think it is pretty much discharged, but still cranks. I tried to boost the battery- still wont fire up.And there is a strange noise from the both fuel pumps, I thought it was the probem because the weather was unusually cold and run out of gas a couple times which could have done some damage to it, so I checked fuel pressure ( that little screw ) it gets plenty of gas and enought pressure, checked the coil, timing, distributor, air cleaner everyting looks good. And What could happen to a car sitting in a garage ....also it previosly was checked by my mechanic, every sensor, O2 ,MAF,trottel body, water temperature sen., fuel preasure and the codes on the ECM (paper clip). What do I do now? Maybe it just does not get enought current for the plugs plus I use some crapy booster-cables and the battery does not get charged, also my Iroc doesnt crank as fast as it used to (makes me think). Please help me. I wanna be back on the roads to race those rise-burners!!!

yeah could be the starter, have you checked your IAC motor??? could also be your ICM. but yeah the 9th injector cuz thats the cold start enrichment. try putting in a BG induction cleaning fluid. pours in the tank. and after a tankfull cleans your fuel system. did wonders for my baby.

Yesterday had the ICM and IAC checked, both look good... dont know if there is any other way to test that ignition module??? it is not burnt or anything: also i have new plugs, dis. cap and leads. I have always suspected there were some problems with elecrics, especialy when i took it to the shop-they did something to it, since that moment radio gets dimmer when i hit the brakes.I dont think its something wrong with the starter-never failed and always cranked the engine very easily, would be too easy to suspect a failed starter, but the battery is discharged though. Now it is being recharged, will try to fire up on Saturday. Thanks for information, really appreciate it!

hmmm, id say check your grounds, power leads, and look for a loose connection somewhere.

The IROC finally started... perfectly as usual!!! So sweet. The problem was a dead battery. It had enought current to turn the engine over, but not for the plugs. I tried to boost the battery with heavy duty booster-cables ( 400 Amps ), it was my mistake, I should have applied the regular ones (200 Amps). Thoughs about how much it would cost have gone away. I am happy.
