I have a 96 probe. It has an automatic trans in it and I got it rebuilt about a year and a half ago and its gone out again, so now I want to put a 5 speed in it. A buddy of mine said we could do it cuz he knows alot about cars and I have no clue but he said it wouldnt be a problem. I just need a list of the parts I would need to do this to my car. If anyone could help out in anyway I would greatly appreciate it.

Check out this thread on MX6.com. In case you didn't know, the Mazda MX6 and Ford Probe are basically built off the same platform.

since you have no clue what to do or know what he is talking about. You should just buy a newer transmission. Maybe the shop that rebuilt yours did a bad job if it only lasted that long. It cost alot of money to put a 5 speed in and alot of time if you are doing it your self. If your buddy isnt a all time mechanic and dont have all the right tools its not going to be any simple task. If its a project car sure have fun. ITs not all that hard to put on in just all the new stuff you have to add. Pressure plates, bearings, clutch, fly wheel, new transmission, ect alot of stuff.

Thanks but I dont have a V6 in my probe its an SE so i think it has a 2.0 something. I dunno my friends gramps has a garage with all the tools we would need cuz he used to be a mechanic now he owns like two dealerships and an auto care center so if we need something Im sure we can get it but I was wondering if it is still possible cuz that site was for a V6 engine.

Just get the same stuff, but for the 4 cylinder engine. IMO, it would be a hassle and not worth it to swap trannies on a 4 cyl. I'd suggest that you sell the 4 cyl and get a V6 manual tranny car. Probably just a $1-1.5k difference in price and you'd gain about 40-45 whp from the V6 and ~2.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile. I think a stock 4 cyl ATX Probes can do the 1/4 mile in about 17.5-18.5 seconds. Stock MTX V6's can do it in 15.5-16.0 sec depending on the driver. (ATX=automatic transmission/transaxle, MTX=manual transmission/transaxle)
