Two year-old Yukon having problems starting - Help

Yesterday I tried to start my 2001 Yukon, but it sounded like if it was stalling... you know, like when they're running out of gas. Also, a lot of dark smoke started to come up out of the muffler tube and it had a strong gasoline smoke. In the dash board a message displayed, "Check Engine Soon".

My Yukon is a bit past two years of age, and it only has 17k miles on it.

Any ideas on what could be causing that?

There should be a code stored that caused the check engine light. Get the computer scanned to see what code(s) are being set. That should point you in the right direction.

I took my car today to the dealer where I bought it; they told me that they ran some diagnostic tests on the engine, but nothing was found.
To this reply, I have to add that this morning when I started the car, and for my surprise, the car started w/o any problems. No black smoke or anything like what described at the beginning of the post. Go figure.

Go figure, the dealer found something but just didn't tell you, sounds like it was running way rich like it would if whoever changed an air filter forgot to plug the MAF back in.
New air filter lately ?

now why would the dealer find something and not tell you herefordman? have you ever heard of a intermittent problem? the truck is under warranty and no technician likes to look at something and find nothing, we are on straight commision, so when your repair bill under warranty says concern could not be duplicated you can bet that the technician that wasted his time on it didn't make any money!!!!

Yes I know of intermittent problems, and yes I agree they can be a pain to find and everyone loses in the search.
But tell me you've never had, or seen a dealer make a mistake and not own up to it, even great mechanics make mistakes. And furthermore dealer mechanics do service bulletin repairs all the time and don't necessarily inform their customers, and I'm very sure they get paid for warranty and upgrade work. I sympathize with the mechanics, some stuff is impossible to solve and the book rate never covers the time involved, and they take the hit from the pissed off customer not necessarily the dealer or manufacturer.

Funny that you mentioned that... As a matter of fact, I took the vehicle for its periodic maintanance check. This last check included a change in the passenger compartment air filter. I dont know it you're talking about that type of filter.

No I meant the intake air filter for the engine, its unlikely the interior cab air filter would have any effect on the engine running.

I am having a similar issue with my 2001 yukon.

After changeing to synthetic it seems to have a starting issue => starts ok first time and then if started again after 10-15 min it is rough with some smoke.

I have read other threads on MAF sensors and would like to investigate that.

Does anyone know where this deal is located?

I have an 03 Denali that wont start somtimes. Every once in a while it will take four or five tries to get it to start... Im goning to take it to the dealer this week. I doubt they will find anything though...
