Shuddering/Rattling on a 92 Maxima GXE

The car starts just fine. Afterwards at low RPMs and especially reverse, it begins to shudder and hesitate, rattling just a bit. After sending it up to about 45 mph, the shuddering/rattling decreases somewhat, but you can feel an obvious hesitation.
Changed the plugs, put in some injector cleaner.
No leaks to speak of, that I can tell.
No burning of oil or signs of smoke.
No overheating or funny noises.
Any ideas or suggestions?

could be that the wires aren't making contact with the spark plugs...

It is the O2 sensor.
Apparantly the old computers cannot detect the faulty O2 sensor.
I replaced mine and the hesitations went away. Now I have a perfectly solid engine that idles correctly.
