New 04 XLS in NEED of CD changer - help!

Greetings all --

So glad to have found this helpful Ford group! I just got an XLS and it has a radio with a CD player but can take only one CD at a time. I've been driving a 96 XLT for the last few years and I have to admit, I've been spoiled by a 6-CD changer and so I'm trying to figure out how or if it's even possible to buy one for this new car and have it installed. The magazine changer in the XLT sat nicely in the middle storage compartment but obviously that was built in the factory. What are my options with the XLS? Is it even doable? Is it horrendously expensive? I am a bit distraught because this truck was a Christmas present and I'm probably sounding way too ungrateful (although it is only on here!).

I'm just a music & books on tape nut and I can't imagine having to change CD's every time I get the whim for something completely different.

Any help or comments much appreciated!

You lucky girl, a XLS for Christmas!

A 6-CD changer is available. You can get them thru E-Bay. Just type Ford CD in the search box and start shopping. A couple of important things,
1st check with your friendly Ford parts department to see if the 6 CD changer wiring is different from the single CD changer and 2nd look at your existing CD player and check if there are four holes in the front of the player, there are two holes on each side of the player; if Yes, it is the DIN type. If No ,you have the screw mounted unit. This is important when you shop for a unit on E-Bay. It does make a difference. You will want to check with a radio installer to check on the cost to install if you can't install yourself. If you can do it yourself be sure to bid for a CD Radio Tool on E-Bay if you have the DIN type CD-player- you need this to remove the radio from your XLS. After everything is said and done and working perfectly, you can sell your "old" CD player on E-Bay and recoup some of the money. Be patient, when shopping, try to get a "new unit" from the custom car people from Southern California. They post radios from time to time. They get new cars and rip everything out and customize the cars.

Happy listening and motoring!!!
