RPM/traction problem

Anyone else ever had this problem.....About 10 or 15 miles into driving, my RPM needle drops to zero and the traction off light comes on. If I pull over, kill the car and restart it is fine until another 10 or so miles. It does not affect my driving and the car still has pickup, just RPM at zero. I have a 2000 Grand Prix SE 3.8 with 72,000 miles.

I have never seen that but lools like the PCM(ECU) might have faulty output to your on board trip computer and realted hardware(a.k.a. Tach). This might be an indication that the PCM(ECU) might fail soon. You should go and get the PCM(ECU) scanned.

I also have this problem... and would really like some help... if anyone has any advice to offewr message me.. Same problem rpm gauge goes dead then a few seconds later the traction control light comes on. I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP Daytona Edition... Sounds like maybe one of the wheel hubs might be messed up or shorting out.

Not sure, but its somewhere to start

do you know roughly hwo much taht could cost, and what the effects the wheel hub would have on everything else?

also has anyone else ever heard of this problem or ever fixed it before...

oh yeah its just recently (a little before the gauge/tracition control problem started) took an abnormal amount of time to start like actually having to hold the ignition. not always just occasionally and that has never happened before.. just a thought.. anyways going to autozone to figure out what the service engine soon light means.. or atleast the pcm code.

I went to autozone and got an error code off the pcm it was PO336 : Crankshaft position sensor ackt Range/Perf which i then looked up and found out that means Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range Problem.. If anyone has any suggestions one how to fix or a genreal idea of what could be worng. please post :) thanks

The problem was the cranlshaft postition sensor was shorting out. Part cost 50 bucks and it takes about 2 hours to install. Not complicated to install just hard to get to. I expect if you go to a shop it will range between $150-$250.
