Taillights

Does anyone know how, if you even can, to clear the orange out of Escort taillights? It's not an orange lens behind a clear one, it's actually orange plastic. I wanna keep the red, just not the orange.

If it can't be done, does anyone know of people that make Escort taillights? Or people that custom make taillights for anything?

There are clear taillight clusters availiable for the escort, but I don't remember who makes them. I just used some spray-on tint to smoke my rear lights. once you've gotten rid of the reflectors from the trunk panel, it looks sharp. I personaly don't like the clear light look, so I went with the smoked look on mine. You can always pinstripe the lights, too. If you find very thin pinstriping and put it over the lights, it looks pretty good.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the all clear look either...a little too ricey for me. Smoked rules, though. My preferance is red brake lights but clear turn signals, can you get a red spray on tint so that I could get the clears then spray the brake section? Miy car's a '91 so it doesn't have the reflectors to begin with. The back panel where the orange reflector would go it almost completely gone now to rust >:|. I think that's why they put the reflectors there, that area is especially prone to rust. But I'm gonna replace the tailgate, and clean off a little surface rust but the wheel wells, and repaint the car (probly Honda elctron blue, or that new Volkswagen blue). Hopefully that new paint will help stop the rust.

you can go to a hobby store and buy testors candy apple red transparent spray paint, about 6 coats will do it and then put clearcoat on for protection

that's what alot of the 3geez guys did

Here's an easier and simpler fix. I noticed this in traffic the other day. If you ever get a chance, look at the back of a Mercury Tracer. Mercury Tracers have all red taillight assemblies. See where I'm going with this? lol If it was my junkyard scavaging self, I would get the taillight assemblies from a Mercury Tracer. Everything should bolt right up, and you would be rid of that annoying orange in your lights! I'm going to do this swap with my wagon. Don't feel like lurking in the junkyard? Go to your local Ford/Mercury dealership and order them for the same year Tracer! Hope this helps!

That works great if you have an Escort sedan, but I'm quite sure the Tracer (sedan only) lights won't fit on a Escort hatchback, unfortunately. You're also in luck if you have a wagon, as the identical shape Tracer lights are all red.

Hmm. I thought for sure that they made Tracer Hatchbacks. Maybe I'm thinking of the old Mercury Lynx from the 80's. Sorry! :(

they made Tracer hatchbacks until 1990, but then they switched when they redesigned the Escort. Those late 80's Tracer hatches are in no way related to Escorts, and the taillights will not fit on Escorts.

the latest craze over here is fitting different makes lights onto our cars, (seriously modified cars) lexus taillights are common, but i have seen supra taillights on a riced ren clio! superb! clear is the way over here, maybe smoked is the way over your way. i got a set of quad light conversions to go on mine, which will be smoothed in to the wings, then i'm getting a quad kit to go on the rear (if i can find one, i think they stopped making them a few years back)
:(

Using taillights from other cars is quite popular here as well. Clears and smoked lights have for the most part gone out of "fashion"...now "Euro" or "Altezza" lights (clear cover over circular lights set on a reflective panel) with reflective or carbon fiber panels are the latest craze...like this:
