YES, you can program a new key yourself. It's a little detailed to do, but you can email for the run down.

What is the best (cheapest) place to get remotes for my 2000 millenia?
Can I reprogram the remote for the 2000 millenia the same way that the 98 gets reprog'd?

My boss has a 1996 mazda millenia. I purchased (2)two used keyless remotes for him off of Ebay for around (60) sixty dollars. They worked beautifully. They are pretty simple to program. All you do is with your drivers door open, and be sure to turn off your power tilt on your steering, insert your key into the ignition and turn it on then turn it right back off, No dont start it, just insert turn to accessory and turn off. Remove it completely and then insert it again turn it on again and remove it completely again. You will need to do this (3)three times total. then as soon as you remove it the third time reach down with your left hand and depress and release the door chime button. Its located right on the door beam on the lower part of the door threashold. You need to do this (3)three times as well. Your interior lights should go on and off each time just as if you were opening and closing the door. Wait a few second and you should hear a programing chime. One Ding. Take your remote and depress the lock button repeatedly. Your locks should cycle through all the doors and then the trunk will pop open. If you hear (3)three chimes programming mode is over. If your remote doesnt work after all of this you will have to repeat the process again. Be sure to start the engine to clear it out before attempting again. If this helps you your welcome. If you still are having no luck email me and I will help with your questions.

I have a 97 millenia (L?). I have the moon roof, heated seats, porwer everything but it didn't come w/ a keyless remote. Does anyone know if keyless entry is a standard feature? Could I just buy a remote and make it work or would I have to install the receiver for the remote?

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 10-15 minutes
Tools Required: None

Step 1: Open the driver's side door, and then press the lock button (on the door) so all the doors lock and the security light comes on.
Step 2: Unlock the drivers side door by turning up the switch so the security light now turns off.
Step 3: Insert your key in the ignition and turn it to ACC position, and then take out the key. Repeat this three times. (remember to take the key completely out!)
Step 4: Close and open the door three times. The car should now beep once.
Step 5: Press any button on the remote two times. The car should beep once again.
Step 6: Wait 5 seconds and then the car should beep four times and your remote is programmed!

Here is procdure i just for my car from ebay~~
1. Remove key from steering lock.
2. Close all doors.
3. Open driver side door and leave open.
4. Perform the following steps within 24 seconds.
a. Insert key in ignition.
b. Turn key to ON and back to OFF, 3 times ending in OFF.
c. Remove key
d. Push driver door frame button three times (black rubber button located right
on the door beam on the lower part of the door threashold that tells the vehicle
whether or not door is closed. Your interior lights should go on and off each
time just as if you were opening and closing the door.)
5. Buzz sound or chime should be heard at this point signaling that the vehicle is
now in programming mode. If not, wait 40 seconds and return to step 4.
6. All transmitters need to be programmed at this time, including the old ones. Push
any button on the transmitter two times. A buzz sound or chime should be heard at
this point signaling that the vehicle has accepted the new transmitter code. If there is
only one transmitter, repeat this step two more times using the only transmitter.
If there are two transmitters, repeat this step two more times using the second transmitter.
When done programming wait about 5 to 15 seconds and you’ll hear the buzzer sound off 4 times.
This means you’re all programmed.
