88 corolla gt-s dohc

I was recently given an 88 corolla gt-s dohc but have no idea what engine I have in it. I know it is stock cuzz I know who gave it to me (only owner) and when i went to the parts house to get tune up parts, half of what I got was wrong. the car has 150,000 miles but runs like a CHAMP! How many different engines came in this thang, and what after market parts are available? The car is a 2 door, flip up headlight, coupe. It has a power sunroof and looks like an effects kit came stock also. Any info helps!!

More info... 88 Corolla, GT-S, DOHC, FX-16, 1.6L

the motor is a small port red top 4a-ge. it has high compression and piston cooling oil squirters. it is a good engine. i think you should do you homework and learn more about the engine than the car itself cause the engine has a somewhat cult following behind it.

Thats what I am learning from this site... I am pretty stoked about the car and intend on doing what I can to make it more reliable and faster. Do you know of any sites and info that can help me in my quest? Thanks for the reply!
